Democratic official says

“I ASKED HER, ‘Do you have good news for the people of Staten Island?”’ said Gigante, who attended a fund-raiser Clinton headlined Monday night in Manhattan. “And she said, ‘Yes.’ So I said, ‘Does that mean you’re running?’ And she said, ‘Yes.’
“I was stunned, stunned. We have a candidate!” Gigante said. Gigante told the Staten Island Advance that Clinton made the statements during a chat with him and his wife, Barbara, as the first lady worked the room at a $1,000-a-head fund-raiser for Rep. Nita Lowey, D-N.Y. Lowey has said she will run for the Senate seat if Clinton does not.
Clinton’s White House spokeswoman could not be reached for comment.
The first lady’s staff has said she would make a final determination next week, after a vacation with the president in Florida, about whether to enter the New York race, and that she would announce her plans sometime in June or July. But New York state Democratic officials have been quietly urging that she make her intentions known sooner rather than later.
Clinton has made repeated visits to the state in the last two months. Her staff said she has decided to make New York City her home when she leaves the White House — if not before. Clinton has been running neck and neck in the polls with Republican New York City Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani, who has all but announced for the seat being vacated by Democratic Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan. Perhaps as a measure of growing concern over her interest in running, Giuliani has been calling the Chicago native and Arkansas transplant a carpetbagger for whom New Yorkers would be wary of voting.
Previously, Giuliani said he didn’t think her brief residency should be an issue. Also in the Senate mix is state Rep. Rick Lazio, a Republican from Long Island. Lazio has been critical of Giuliani in recent days, calling him a “reluctant Republican” for the mayor’s failure to take a more conservative stance on a variety of issues ranging from abortion and gay rights to welfare reform and a commuter tax. While there is every indication that Giuliani and Lazio would be prepared to go head-to-head in a GOP primary, Lowey has said she would step aside for Clinton. For her part, Clinton has been eager to help Lowey raise money for a possible Senate campaign so that she cannot be later accused of stifling Lowey’s ability to build a war chest while she contemplated whether to run.
Gigante was an early supporter of Bill Clinton for the presidency back in 1991. Clinton won Staten Island in 1996, the first Democrat to do so since Lyndon Johnson in 1964.

Now, maybe you're only basing your poll on people who routinely operate
computers, log onto the internet, have full-time jobs, etc., but if these
are the people you're trying to reach, and your are, your numbers don't bear
out a 12% lead. If what you're saying is that your going to reach all those

Hillary will run for Senate and dump Bill

First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton has told close friends she will
run for the Senate from New York and that she will dump her
philandering husband as soon as his term as President is up.
"If she is elected to the Senate, it will be as Hillary Rodham Clinton, but
her name will be Hillary Rodham before her first term is complete," said
a close associate of the First Lady Tuesday night.
Mrs. Clinton plans to file for divorce "within six months" after her
husband leaves office on January 20, 2001, sources claim. She is looking
for a home for herself in New York City.
"She has no intention of of living there with Bill Clinton," the associate
said. "Their marriage is over. Everything that you see now is for public
consumption."
Mrs. Clinton has also told close aides she will definitely seek the New
York Senate seat being vacated by retiring Senator Daniel Patrick
Moynihan.
"She had decided to go for it," an aide said. "All that's left is the
paperwork."
In an interview with CBS news anchor Dan Rather on 60 Minutes II,
scheduled to be aired Wednesday night, Mrs. Clinton will talk about how
she has used "lot of prayer" to get through the past 18 months of scandal
surrounding her husband's affair with former White House intern Monica
Lewinsky, but friends say it is raw anger, not compassion, that drives the
First Lady now.
"She's finished with Clinton," says a former staff member. "It's over."
Sources say Mrs. Clinton has told daughter Chelsea that she will seek a
divorce "early in 2001" and that she will return to her maiden name as
soon as that divorce is final. Chelsea, the sources say, has promised her
mother that she, too, will drop her last name of Clinton and file to have
her name changed legally to "Chelsea Rodham."
"You see a lot written now about how lonely Bill Clinton is in the White
House," says the former staffer, "but it's going to be real lonely for him
after he leaves the Presidency. His wife and his daughter want nothing to
do with him. They will abandon him completely."
Neither the White House or spokesmen for the First Lady returned calls
seeking comment on this report.

Starr Won't retry me on contempt counts, I finally showed him what's up !
I was freed for good Tuesday afternoon from pursuit by my
old nemesis, independent counsel Kenneth Starr.
In court papers filed in federal court in Little Rock, Starr said he would
not retry me on two counts of criminal contempt because it would be
"very difficult if not impossible" to get an unbiased jury pool. Yea, that means nobody likes you !
"The unwillingness of some jurors to focus on the evidence and follow the
jury instructions weighs heavily in the ... decision that a retrial in this district is
not in the public interest," Starr's motion said.
The newspapers call me at my parents' home in Camden, and I told them I was grateful for all the help I have gotten but I am still angry at that dirtbag Starr.
My father's in the hospital with a possible stroke, and my mother just had
quadruple bypass surgery, and doctors are saying it's probably due to the
stress. I think the taxpayers should have their money
back, and I should have my life back.
My defense focused on Starr and his tactics. My lawyer argued
during my five-week trial that Starr's prosecutors were interested exclusively
in damaging information about the Clintons and that the prosecutors would
charge me with perjury unless I invented some.
My friend and witness whose testimony bolstered my position was Virginia
resident Julie Hiatt Steele.
Starr also cleared Steele of the threat of retrial. He is such a loser.
Mark Barrett, who prosecuted me said, "Basically, we gave it our best shot last time." And you lost, you turkey.
One juror, Angela K. Smith of London, told the Arkansas
Democrat-Gazette after the verdict that some jurors considered Starr an
evil man, and that jurors' impressions of Starr were "absolutely, absolutely"

Though the independent counsel's office in west Little Rock remains open, all those slim Starr lawyers are headed out of this state. Good riddens !

keep and bear arms" so important that they made it second in our Bill of

keep and bear arms. Reading what they had to say points out clearly that
the Second Amendment wasn't written into our Bill of Rights so that we
could go duck and deer hunting or shoot clay pigeons over the weekend.
The Second Amendment was given to us as protection against tyranny by
the federal government and the Congress of the United States.
Who are the strongest supporters of the attack on our Second
Amendment rights? They're the liberals in and out of Congress, who want
more and more government control over our lives. These people want to be
secure in the knowledge that they can encroach upon our liberties and
face no prospect of armed resistance. These people don't have the
courage to seek a constitutional amendment repealing the Second
Amendment, so they want to eat away at it piecemeal in the name of
fighting crime and protecting children. That's why the Littleton, Colo.,
massacre is so appealing to them; it gives them cover.
Their ultimate agenda is gun confiscation. Their strategy is akin to
the cigarette-Nazi's strategy: start out with reasonable demands and
then escalate. Initially, all the cigarette-Nazis wanted was no smoking
sections on airplanes. Then they escalated to no smoking on planes
altogether, then in airports, restaurants, workplaces and now even
outside. Had they made their full agenda known at the beginning, they
wouldn't have gotten anything.

9,000 PURPLE HEARTS - THAT'S AN ORDER LEE GRAVES this week got some good news for his business, but not very good news for soldiers.
"On Wednesday, we got the official order to make 9,000 Purple Hearts," he told me from Tomball, Texas.
Purple Hearts are awarded to servicemen and women who are wounded in the zone of hostility during war.
But we are not fighting a war, according to Bill Clinton, we are just "degrading" Slobbo's war machine. OK.
Then why in good God's name are we making Purple Hearts if we are not in a war and we don't expect casualties?
"I was a little surprised to get that big an order from the Defense Logistics Agency," said Graves, boss of medal-making Graco Industries.

"I think I am right - they [Washington] want 1,400 Purple Hearts for November, 1,400 for December, 1,600 for January, 1,600 for February, 1,600 for March and 1,400 for April."
Unless we have a war, why would the Defense Department be asking for Purple Hearts?

I would like to talk about parochial schools and the U.S. government. As you should know in the Amendments, it says, and I quote "State Government and religious beliefs shall be separated." I would just like to point out that our whole constitution was written in the 1700's. The majority of the people who wrote the constitution had some religious beliefs basing the whole government onto their beliefs.
For example: In the Pledge of Allegiance it says "One nation....Under GOD...." In public schools every morning they say that. Therefore you would be combining religion and state which according to the constitution is forbidden.
In another example I would just like to say that the state governments pays for priests, rabbis, preachers, etc.. to go to prisons to lead
those, who have committed various crimes, in prayer. That would also be combining the State and religion again.
OK. Let me get to the point. I have went to a Catholic school for 9 years. In those 9 years I have learned that State and Religion are forbidden to work together, where as the people in Washington pay for certain "religious matters" to be done and will not give parochial schools some of tax payers money. People who pay for an education at a parochial also pay taxes. Those taxes go to public schools where their kids do not go but they still have to pay for another kids education.
I feel that parochial schools should be given some of the tax payers money or that the government should not pay for "certain religious matters." Otherwise public schools should not have to say the Pledge of Allegiance in the morning because of the religious saying "One nation under
God" is in the text.
Please consider these issues.

Of course, in retaliation, and to contain the fallout, we could use tactile nuclear weapons and blow out just a few selected cities in China, but what would that achieve?

China's purpose, according to the news, is to "shape America's policy" with the hidden threat of nuclear war if we don't see things their way.

Since I live in the San Francisco Bay Area we are China's second choice for a West Coast target. They'll kill a whole lot of Chinese people if they hit San Francisco, but obviously they don't care about killing them either.
What's the solution? The ONLY solution, the way I see it, is to democratize China as fast as possible.

I don't know where you're getting your figures from,
saying that Hillary can beat Rudy by 12%, but out of more than 5,000 votes,
in a poll which YOU have asked readers to consult, more than 70% of those
voting don't have favorable opinions of Hillary and don't want her to run.
As a political liberal, I found it discouraging that our political base
of support is often unheard in the halls of Congress. We as a political
party should be fighting for health care reform, gun control, labor rights,
gender equality and fighting for the environment. I believe that President
Clinton has found for these things, but he also has backed off when the fire
got hot. Also, he helped pass NAFTA, encouraged more business spending in
China and he has not fought for the protection of civil rights of workers in
the glober economy.

companies are private businesses and as long as they do business
honestly (i.e. no
antitrust violations) they are entitled to charge what the market
will bear! Besides, while
some new drugs are expensive, the FDA approval programs and government red tape
double or triple the costs of drug development. I'd suggest that the government
regulate whatever you do to keep your income at a lower, more "fair" rate, but
somehow I don't think you ever earned anything but minimum wage.
