The President, Bill Clinton, in a wonderful move of generosity, has opened the White House for refugees of the Kosovo crisis to "move in and relax," said President Clinton.

"Both Hillary and I feel this would be the humanitarian thing to do. It will show the world that we Americans can really open our hearts in a time of crisis. We will really show Slobodan Milosevic that we mean business." the President added.

The crisis in Kosovo was created by Mr. Clinton and NATO when they started unprecedented bombing of towns and villages in the Kosovo area of Yugoslavia.

Presidential Press Secretary Joe Lockhart said, "The White House will prepare for the arrival of nine refugee families to live in the Lincoln bedroom. It will be a bit cramped, but once we move the leftovers from the Madonna stay-over, things will be better."

First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton noted that, "Things will be crazy around here for a few days until we can prepare for their [the refugees'] arrival." The food staff at the White House will serve ethnic Albanian food for the entire refugee stay, except for Sundays. "Sundays are for pizza," said Hillary in a joyful manner.

Mrs. Clinton also mentioned that, "We were looking forward to having Johnny Chung and his wife stay in the Lincoln bedroom over the next few weeks, but we felt this was more important." Johnny Chung could not be reached for comment.

Experts have advised the Clintons to keep the other First Family resident - Buddy - away from the refugees for fear of contracting exotic diseases and foreign fleas.

An FBI lie-detector test found Kathleen E. Willey was truthful when she said President Clinton sexually accosted her in the White House, according to newly released documents.

In a Sept. 15, 1998, test at the FBI polygraph unit in Washington, Mrs. Willey was asked, "In November 1993 did the president place his hand on your breast?" and "Did President Clinton place your hand on his groin?" Both times, Mrs. Willey answered "yes," the FBI summary stated.

"It is the opinion of this examiner that Ms. Willey was truthful" when responding to those two questions, the FBI report said. Mr. Clinton denies making any sexual advance.

A federal judge unsealed the lie-detector results this week after news organizations went to court to challenge the secrecy surrounding them.

Mrs. Willey also passed when she answered "yes" in response to two questions:
"Before 1997 did you tell Julie Steele that the president came on to you?"
"In 1993 did you tell Julie Steele about an encounter with the president in his office?"

The FBI test concluded that "it is the opinion of this examiner that Mrs. Willey was again truthful when responding to the above listed questions during this test" about Mrs. Steele.

Mrs. Willey was the chief prosecution witness for independent counsel Kenneth W. Starr's office in last week's obstruction trial of Julie Hiatt Steele, whose testimony conflicted with Mrs. Willey's account. The jury deadlocked in Mrs. Steele's trial in Alexandria, Va.

In the FBI report released by U.S. District Judge Claude Hilton, a third set of polygraph questions is blacked out because of an "ongoing investigation" by Mr. Starr's office, the judge stated in a court order. In that third series of questions, Mrs. Willey was also found to be "truthful," the FBI report states.

The FBI report noted that "Ms. Willey has provided investigators with information concerning conversations she alleges to have had with Maryland developer and Democratic Party contributor Nathan Landow during which Mr. Landow is said to have suggested how she should testify in the Paula Jones suit" against Mr. Clinton.

Judge Hilton released the lie-detector results after he was directed by the federal appeals court in Richmond to reconsider his decision to keep certain documents in the Steele case secret.

Six days before the Sept. 15 test, another one conducted by FBI was deemed "inconclusive."

GOP leadership alters course on criminal checks for purchasers

He urged the Senate as it began what was expected to be its third and final day of debate on the juvenile crime bill to reconsider its decision.

“The American people are watching this debate,” Clinton said. “They care very much about the result.”

Attorney General Janet Reno also criticized the Senate vote, saying that by approving the GOP-drafted alternative the lawmakers threatened to “jeopardize the ability to do the background checks we do.”

"I am stunned that less than one month after the worst school shooting in our nation’s history, the Senate has decided to make it easier for felons, fugitives and other prohibited purchasers to buy guns,” she said.

There were signs of unease in the Republican ranks immediately after Wednesday’s defeat of the amendment in the GOP-controlled Senate. It was the first gun measure to come to a vote since last month’s Colorado school massacre.

Senate Republicans retreated under pressure Thursday on the politically volatile issue of gun control, calling for fresh restrictions on sales at gun shows less than 24 hours after rejecting them. But Democrats swiftly denounced the offer, saying the juvenile crime legislation the restriction was attached to contained numerous loopholes.

The new proposal “requires 24-hour background checks for all transfers of firearms at gun shows,” according to a summary distributed by aides to Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah. An amendment by Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho, narrowly approved on Wednesday, had made background checks voluntary for private gun sales.

The Republican controlled Congress opposed criminal background checks in gun shows.

Incorrect. (So much for the CNN version) The vast majority of vendors at all gun shows are Licensed Gun Dealers and are required to do these checks just as if they are in their shop. Period. The rest are citizens who have come to sell their own guns. Now, we can either require all citizens to do background checks (even on family members, friends, etc.) when selling a weapon (which is de facto gun registration as the Feds can track every gun owner and what he/she owns) or we can treat such transactions as they have been for centuries; as private transactions. There is no real compromise here. If you pass such a meaningless law then these transactions will merely be moved out of the gun shows into the street. Passing more laws that do nothing to solve the actual problem and give the Government more power over you is not just pointless but harmful.

Republicans aren't you ashamed of supporting criminals?

A quick review of the last seven years of Justice Department records shows that there has been a dramatic reduction in Federal Criminal prosecutions of gun law violations. This is a verifiable fact. Look it up. Clinton's own Justice Department is asleep at the wheel. Democrats, aren't you ashamed of supporting criminals?

MOSCOW, May 14 (Itar-Tass) - Moscow resolutely denounced another NATO crime in Yugoslavia, committed last night. A NATO air strike killed 50 residents, mostly children, women and the aged, in the village of Korisa, situated in the south-west of the Serbian province of Kosovo. Over 50 villagers were wounded.

"Reports on the death of civilians in Kosovo is another graphic confirmation of an aggressive nature of NATO operations in Yugoslavia," said a high-ranking Russian diplomat here on Friday.

According to the diplomat, "it is high time now to stop bombing raids on Yugoslavia and to switch over to a search for ways of a political settlement of the Balkans crisis". He claimed that "a pause in NATO bombings could be" the first step in this direction.

LITTLETON, Colo. he last flowers, banners and candles from the Columbine High School memorial have barely been cleared away and already debate is bubbling over whether a permanent memorial should take account of the deeply held religious faith of several of the slain students.

The Foothills Park and Recreation District, which manages Robert Clement Park next to the school, wants to build a monument to honor the victims of the worst school shooting in U.S. history.

Organizers acknowledge there is strong community support for a memorial with a Christian or biblical theme, but some secular activists insist there should be no recognition of the religious faith that was so important to many of the slain students.

We must remember diversity is good.
There should be no recognition of one religious faith .

WASHINGTON (April 30) -- Seventeen U.S. congressmen filed suit against President Bill Clinton Friday seeking an end to military strikes against Yugoslavia.

The representatives, 15 Republicans and 2 Democrats, say the hostilities violate the 1973 War Powers Act which requires Congress to declare war or otherwise vote in favor of the military action.

The suit charges that "Defendant William Jefferson Clinton is unconstitutionally conducting an offensive military attack against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia without obtaining a declaration of war or other explicit authorization from Congress and despite Congress' decision not to authorize such action."

About 100 million new 60 cent stamps have been printed featuring a photograph of America's great natural wonder and the helpful caption: "Grand Canyon, Colorado." The canyon is in Arizona.

The blunder was not spotted until most of the stamps had been printed. They will now have to be destroyed. Linn's Stamp News, the philatelist's bible, puts the cost of the mistake at $500,000.
