Jocks at Columbine High would pick on the school's Trenchcoat Mafia, calling members "gay", "freaks" and "homos", the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER and Grand Junction's DAILY SENTINEL are reporting in Thursday editions.

"They were ones you'd make fun of," Mike Smith, 18, a senior and a point guard on the school's state championship basketball team, tells the INQUIRER.

Smith says that "he and the other jocks would pick on the mafia members, egging them on with gibes of 'gay,' or 'inbreed.'"

The tensions between the jocks and the trenchcoats came to a head at the end of the last school year.

For several weeks, Smith tells the paper, the two groups fought almost daily after school.

"It was like, 'OK, we'll meet you here and we'll meet you there and get it all over with.'"

He said school officials knew about the fights but did little to stop them.

At the time in the past, he had shrugged off the disputes.

But Wednesday, he felt guilty, reports the paper's Richard Jones and Gwen Florio in Littleton.

"Sometimes," he added, gesturing at the school over his shoulder, "I think it's because of me."

Jon Vandermark, a 16-year-old sophomore, tells Thursday's DAILY SENTINEL [in Grand Junction, Colo.] that members of the Trenchcoat Mafia said they were bi-sexual.

"Boys would hold hands in the halls sometimes," Vandermark tells the paper.

"They were called freaks, homos and everything in-between."

After I stopped laughing at this I thought, just for fun, I'd ask just which "founder" said anything like this? The phrase "separation of church and state" is obviously too complicated for you to grasp so you interpret it to mean "a state devoid of religion". You are wrong. What the Founding Fathers were trying to avoid was any Official State Church (one of the many things the settlers came to The Colonies to escape in the first place). Proof? Easy. Anyone educated in philosophy (or with a three digit IQ for that matter) knows that there is, ultimately, no concrete proof of anything. One cannot even prove one's own existence! For any system of thought to be successful one must take some things as "self evident". We need a starting place. For many, this is a Bible. For others it's the Koran. And, sadly, for some it's Mar1lyn Man5on records. In any case, we must make some assumptions to begin any course of thought. Each and every elected official makes hundreds (if not thousands) of decisions with a moral component each day. Where does one learn to distinguish "right" form "wrong"? (Beliefs.) Where is the ultimate judge? (If there is one, it is "God".) Are there any absolutes? (None that we can prove.) To ask a person to make a moral judgement without any use of "belief" or "religious teaching" would be asking the impossible. Thus, Government is based on religion! Or, more accurately, Government is run by mere mortals that must rely on their beliefs, right or wrong.

Ultimately, all that matters is what we believe.

The Founding Fathers clearly understood one thing; The State should never endorse a particular Religion. An Official State Religion would be a terrible thing. But I can think of one worse thing; a State run by men with No Religion. (And I think we all know who I'm talking about here.) There is great evidence in the Founding Fathers writings, if you take the time to actually read them, that shows that they were quite aware of just how important a strong set of religious beliefs is to a person. Indeed, to a nation.

Tell me Bugs, is it wrong to murder someone? And, more importantly, why is it wrong to murder someone? (This is a trick question, don't answer too quickly...)

Message: I have talked to several mothers who have teenage sons about the Littleton catastrophe. What I am getting is that our young people are so inured to violence that they are "disconnected." Instead of being appalled by the incident they are in awe of the two young men who committed that heinous crime. When you ask them how they would feel if someone blew up their high school they think its funny, but if you ask them how they would feel if one of their brothers or sisters were killed and you mention their siblings actual names they become very upset. What we have here is a serious disconnect and need to work on that area of their minds.

One day after those two kids in Arkansas mowed down a few school children and teachers in their school they were crying for their mommies! Reality hit! They just wanted to go back to school and continue their lives like they had been in movie or something.

Semantics perhaps, but if person were truly connected to God he would feel sorrow even for each sparrow that falls. Any offence against life would be abhorrent to them. Message: In December 1998, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) proposed a so-called "Know Your Customer" (KYC) rule. If enacted, Know Your Customer would have required banks to monitor your checking and savings account, and report any "unusual transactions" to the federal government. This frightening threat to your financial privacy would have forced your bank to:
* Discover your source of funds
* Determine your "normal and expected transactions"
* Report any "suspicious activity" to federal investigators

However, in the face of overwhelming public opposition, generated in large part by an Internet campaign, the FDIC withdrew their proposed Know Your Customer regulation. However, the battle isn't over yet.

It turns out that the Federal Reserve's "Bank Secrecy Act Compliance Manual" pressures banks to develop policies similar to Know Your Customer, policies that over 88% of banks have begun to implement. After the heat dies down, the Federal Reserve Board plans to repackage Know Your Customer as "policy guidelines" instead of "regulations".

The government claims it is trying to thwart money launderers and drug dealers. But what this law does is turn every bank teller into a government informer and everyone with a bank account into a criminal suspect.

In a free society, the government has no business asking where you get your money or how you spend it -- and politicians have no right to force your bank to monitor your account. Know Your Customer doesn't need to be "repackaged" -- it needs to be repealed.

Congressman Ron Paul has introduced the Know Your Customer Sunset Act (HR 516) and the Bank Secrecy Sunset Act (HR 518) that together will repeal existing Know Your Customer reporting requirements, and prevent any new KYC rules from being implemented. With all due respect Graduated is not being hateful. He does have an opinion and it does appear to differ with yours but it is not based in Hate or Fear but Compassion. If we were talking about Heroin Users here and Graduated said that "that stuff will kill you and destroy your family" would you call that "hateful"? Homosexuality is, if nothing else, not the best "choice" for a lifestyle. If indeed it is a choice, which Graduated and many others believe it is, then it is clearly a poor choice.                         STATEMENT BY THE PRESIDENT

     Today, I authorized the Secretaries of Defense and Transportation to
order to active duty up to 33,102 essential members of our Reserve
component to support NATO and U.S. operations related to the conflict in
Kosovo.

     The Secretary of Defense has informed me that he intends to exercise
that authority immediately to recall approximately 2,000 essential Air
Force Reserve and Air National Guard crews from eight states.  These
Reservists will support refueling operations for our intensifying air
operations in Kosovo.  I expect that over the coming days and weeks,
Secretary Cohen and General Shelton will call upon additional personnel
from all branches of the service to fill critical support positions in our
humanitarian and combat operations in and around the former Yugoslavia.
These reserves are essential to America?s military strength; they are part
of the total force we bring to bear whenever our men and women in uniform
are called to action.

     All Americans are proud of the commitment these citizen soldiers make
to their country.  On behalf of all Americans, I thank each Reservist,
their families and loved ones, and their employers here at home for their
service and sacrifice in support of our important mission in Kosovo.
