With diplomatic relations still strained over Beijing's decision in April to hold crew members of a downed U.S. surveillance plane for 11 days, Powell said maintaining normal trade relations would help U.S. exporters while promoting change ``for the better'' in China. ``The president's decision is not an endorsement of China's policies, some of which clearly conflict with America's views and values,'' Powell said, writing in The Washington Post. ``Rather, we believe that extension of normal trade relations with China again this year is clearly in America's interest.'' Bush signaled his decision earlier this week to extend normal trade relations for an additional year in a speech that was well received by Chinese officials. ``We express our welcome,'' Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhu Bangzao said in response. ``This is a two-way reciprocal trade arrangement between two nations and absolutely not a favor granted by one country to another.''

Let me see if I have this correct.

Public display of the Ten Commandments in the U.S. Supreme Court building in Washington, D.C., is OK, but displaying those same commandments in public or in government buildings in Indiana is not OK, right?

So far, so good.

Next, public display of the Ten Commandments in the Supreme Court's actual chamber is not an official congressional or government recognition of a particular (Christian) religion, but public display of the same commandments in Indiana is, right?

OK.

Finally, displaying the Ten Commandments in the chamber of the U.S. Supreme Court is not a violation of the First Amendment, but displaying them in Indiana is, right?

Right – according to the U.S. Supreme Court and some lower federal courts, anyway.

If you're confused, that's OK – it's normal. Most thinking people are confused by this, since it reeks of hypocrisy and constitutional violation.

Nonetheless, this is exactly what the Supreme Court said earlier this week when justices, by a 6 to 3 margin, decided not to hear a case involving the public display of the Ten Commandments on a monument in front of a municipal building in a place called Elkhart, Ind.

I'll explain.

Elkhart city officials were sued a few years back by the American Civil Liberties Union because, allegedly, public display of the Ten Commandments on city government-owned turf is a violation of the Constitution's "separation of church and state" mandate that is supposedly buried somewhere in the First Amendment.

The problem with that argument is the same as it's always been: There is no constitutional language calling for a "separation of church and state" and, while I'm at it, I challenge any commie ACLU lawyer to show me where the Constitution actually says that.

Rather, the First Amendment says only this: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

The "separation of church and state" phrase came from a letter Thomas Jefferson wrote to a Baptist group in the early 1800s. That phrase does not exist in the Constitution of the United States, and yet, it has been used successfully by the ACLU and other legal groups to prohibit public displays of any kind of religious inscription, portrayal, or characters in cities and states all over the country.

Worse, that means any number of federal judges have accepted this bogus argument as valid, yet none of them have ever been able to honestly cite that passage in any of their rulings because it simply does not exist in our supreme governing document.

The defection of Vermont Senator Jim Jeffords from the Repugs brought into sharp relief the contrast between George W. Bush’s mantra about changing the negative tone of Washington and the reality.

The ultra-conservative Washington Times may have expressed the schizophrenia best on its May 24 editorial page. The newspaper, which is financed by South Korean theocrat Rev. Sun Myung Moon, highlighted what it called the “outrage of the week” in an editorial that accused Senate Democrats of delivering “a major hit” to “the political civility that President George W. Bush committed himself to restore in Washington.”

The editorial complained that Democratic leaders had balked at a plan to let 98-year-old Senator. Strom Thurmond, R-S.C., skip some late-night votes by “pairing” him with a Democratic senator who would agree not to vote. Though this decision seems to have come from the Democratic leadership, the Times tossed in freshman Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton for blame, with a gratuitous slap at profits she made from commodities trading in the 1970s.

Then, in its own strange “pairing” – given the concern for civility – the Times published a crude editorial cartoon depicting Jeffords with donkey ears. “If he talks like a jackass, walks like a jackass, looks like a jackass, and calls himself an elephant, then he’s probably a dumb jackass,” the Washington Times cartoonist wrote.

This unblushing juxtaposition of high-minded language about civility and the politics of insult has become typical of this new political landscape in which language grows ever more distant from reality. Shrub’s supporters, in particular, wax eloquent about their commitment to political gentility while continuing the opposite behavior, without a wince for the hypocrisy.

The Jeffords defection, which cost Republicans control of the Senate, ripped off the genteel masks big time. The Wall Street Journal dubbed Jeffords “a big baby” in one online editorial. “Benedict Jeffords,” howled the headline of the New York Post.

The National Review’s Jonah Goldberg observed ruefully, “I know that it’s illegal to sew a half-starved weasel into his small intestine, but there are other options.”

Judicial Restraint?

Beyond language, the events of the past decade have made clear that even the application of law is now just a political weapon.

On the same days as the civility editorial and the Jeffords-jackass cartoon, The Washington Times carried advertisements for a “tribute to Honourable N. Sanders Sauls,” the Florida judge who rejected Vice President Al Gore’s motion for a Florida recount after Sauls had eaten up precious time last fall and then refused to examine the ballots that had been introduced as evidence.

This latest Sanders Sauls tribute – scheduled for June 7 – is sponsored by the right-wing Judicial Watch, which filed an endless string of lawsuits against Democrats during the Clinton administration and intervened on Bush’s behalf in the recount battle. Sauls, who apparently sees nothing wrong in siding openly with partisan factions, also is being honoured in June by the FreeRepublic.com group, another far-right collection of rabid Clinton-haters.

Sen. Jeffords to Return Some Campaign Donations

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Vermont Sen. James Jeffords (news - web sites) plans to return campaign donations to voters in his state who asked for refunds after his defection from the Republican Party, his spokesman said on Thursday.

Jeffords's press secretary, Eric Smulson, confirmed some Vermonters had asked for their money back. However, Smulson said he did not know the exact number of refund requests the senator had received.

Jeffords left the Republican Party last week, saying he felt it had become too conservative. He became an independent, but his move tipped the balance of power in the Senate to the Democrats.

Earlier on Thursday, his office said Jeffords had received death threats after announcing his decision to leave the Republican ranks.

``He did receive threats,'' Smulson said. ``We are taking them very seriously.''

Smulson would not comment on whether Capitol Police officers had been assigned to protect Jeffords, who is attending an environmental conference in Italy this week.

Jeffords just evened the score, as I see it. If the Supreme Court can change the outcome of a national election with impunity, then certainly one Senator can change his party because he honestly believes it is what he has to do.

This election will stand out in history for its confusion and muddy legal maneuvering. As Jon Stewart dubbed it, the last election really was "INDECISION 2000." And it still is. Jeffords just made a move that helped correct a bad decision in this election mess.

If some straight guy went around bashing gays in print the way you've been bashing poo-eaters, we'd all assume he was a closet case. So, how about it, Dan: What's your real motivation, huh? Expressing personal preference is one thing, but publishing letters just so you can point out how disgusted you are is hate-mongering. Poo-eaters no doubt have a lot to deal with without having some sex columnist remind them of their marginal status. Most people I've met with strange fetishes would rather not have them. They can't help it.
Loyal But Disappointed Reader

First, I am not now, nor have I ever been, a poo-eater. Of course, if I were a poo-eater, I probably wouldn't admit it in print, so I guess you'll have to take my denial with a grain of salt. Or, if you prefer, a kernel of corn.

The more obscure or stomach-churning your fetish, the harder it is to find that special someone.

In the interest of full disclosure, I will admit to having some rather strange fetishes myself. I've found my fetishes to be pleasurable at some times (for obvious reasons) and irksome at others (for logistical reasons). And there have been times when I've wished I didn't have the fetishes that I do, so I understand what poo-eaters out there must be going through. Finding likeminded perverts is never easy, and the more obscure or stomach-churning your fetish, the harder it is to find that special someone.

However, LBDR, while each of us has an absolute right to explore our fetishes with willing, likeminded perverts of legal age, we do not have the right to demand that other people refrain from wrinkling their nose in disgust when our fetishes are discussed in a public forum.

Is what you told shit-eaters serious? "Please stop reading my column." That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I am into scat. Just because you don't have my fetish and don't understand it, that doesn't make it wrong. People who say "That's disgusting!" are pathetic. What I'm into is the same as someone having a foot fetish. The object of the fetish is not what it is in and of itself, but the meaning that object has taken on over the course of a person's individual experience. This is why the smell/taste of shit is not as appalling to a shit-eater as it might be to a non-shit-eater. The shit-eater's attachment is founded upon something larger and more profound. It is subconsciously symbolic.
Don't Run Me Down

I never said eating shit is wrong; I said eating shit is disgusting. If shit-eaters are eating shit because they're turned on by feeling dirty or degraded--which seems the likeliest subconsciously symbolic attachment--then shit-eaters should be willing to acknowledge that eating shit is, in point of fact, disgusting. And, while the human impulse to fetishize feet or shit may be the same, discussing the sight, smell, and taste of feet elicits a very different reaction from a non-foot-fetishist than a shit-eating discussion elicits from a non-shit-eater. Deal with it.

Tell your shit-freak readers to get jobs in nursing homes wiping butts. Not only will they get to handle shit all day long, but they'll also get paid for it!
Shit Eating Problem Solved

In defense of shit freaks (how I dreaded ever having to write that), I should point out that the person producing the turd is just as important as the turd itself. A straight guy who wants to lick feet isn't interested in any old foot, SEPS, but a foot attached to someone he finds attractive. Likewise, a turd in an adult diaper pinched out by someone's demented old granny won't do much for a wholesome, God-fearing, right-thinking shit freak. What shit freaks want, of course, are turds pinched by Pamela Anderson or Ben Affleck or, in some extremely distressing cases, James Gandolfini.

I wanted to send a warning to your poo-eating readers. While urine is relatively sterile, shit is chock-full of bacteria, viruses, and everything else the body deems unworthy to stay inside. Scat is not safe. There have been many cases of people sent to the hospital, and even the morgue, from turd-gobbling. For your readers who have this fetish, I recommend sticking to videos. There are quite a few available, most of which use chocolate pudding.
Poop Is For Toilets

Videos aren't the only option for poo freaks, PIFT. On The Safe Edge: A Manual For SM Play, an exhaustive and, at times, exhausting book, holds out hope for health-conscious poo-eaters everywhere. "There are many foods that have a consistency similar to feces," writes author Trevor Jacques, the Martha Stewart of the SM scene. "A single drop of butyric acid [smells] like a ton of feces, so you could use a combination of butyric acid and food for the right effect." Mashed potatoes that smell and taste like crap: It's a good thing.

I'm a 25-year-old straight male, and I love to go down on women. One of my favorite freaky things to do while I'm eating a girl out is to randomly lick her asshole. I've seen this done in pornos, and from personal experience I know it drives some women wild. I love having it performed on me when I'm getting head, and by trying it on a lady first, she gets the idea of what turns me on. In a perfect situation, this is something you do in or after a long, hot shower.

However, I don't always find myself in perfect situations that allow for a complete scrubbing back there. So, my question is this: How dangerous and unsanitary is this after a long night of going out to bars with chicks using public bathrooms?

P.S. I want to clarify that I am NOT one of the poo-eaters who read your column.
Caribbean Butt Pirate

Look where all this poo-eating talk has gotten us. Normal people--guys into eating pussy and licking squeaky-clean butts--now feel compelled to deny being poo-eaters when they write. Nothing about your letter, CBP, led me to believe you were into shit, and it pains me to no end that you felt compelled to deny it in a P.S.

Anyway, to answer your question: Only clean butts should be licked, as dirty butts can make a person very, very ill (hepatitis, intestinal parasites, cooties), and butt-licking should never be a first-date activity. If you're going to rim or be rimmed, shower first. If you don't have time to shower, wipe your crack with a wet, soapy washcloth. Insisting that your date prep herself for an ass-licking may deprive you of the element of surprise, but it will keep your butt-licking self and your butt-licking partner a whole lot safer.

What's it called when a guy eats out a girl during her period? I just love drenching my face in Hillary's fresh flow.

It is not just that , it is also the fact that in reality he sold his vote. You can argue that but , did he or did he not recieve remuneration for switching sides.

Okay , if you want to argue that did he get something for jumping sides that he would not have gotten had he remained a Repulican?

Jeffords already stated that he will vote with the dumocrats, like he always has. He gave control of the senate to the dumocrats through his calculated defection. Hell, if all he wanted to do was be a puppet of the dumocrats, he could've continued on his merry way of socalist voting from within the Republican party. Republicans might wish to offer a blanket apology for the unnecessary distractions they caused to the nation during the impeachment imbroglio, as well as the damage they did to our Constitution when they ignored this nostrum.

As I recall, Clinton's sex life became public when he was being sued by Paula Jones for harassment. In questioning Bill Clinton to see if this type of harassment followed a pattern, Clinton committed perjury by lying to a Grand Jury. He was impeached for perjury. No one, not even the President, is above the law. What is so hard to understand about that?

Hitlary Clinton: Attack Dog

Neal Boortz - Newsmax.com - May 31, 2001

It's taken just five months, but Hillary Clinton, the junior senator from New York, is now the Democratic Party's top attack dog. She's opposed just about every proposal the Bush administration has made – everything from tax cuts to environmental regulations.

Case in point: A news conference last week. The news conference was called so that Senate Democrats could bash Bush some more over his budget and tax-cut plan. The New York Post reports that five senators participated. Four of those senators possessed experience ranging from 12 to 24 years.

The fifth senator? Hillary Clinton, in her first Senate term with just five months under her belt. She's just 97th in Seniority – but she's right up there in the top five when it comes to camera face planting and attacking George W. Bush.

She can deny it until she's blue in the face, but Hillary Clinton wants to be president of the United States. Playing Senate attack dog is a good way to get that all-important "face time" on television and raise your profile among Democratic voters. She's setting the stage for a presidential run – if not in 2004, then definitely in 2008.

Heaven help us.

From Third Reich to Third Way to Third Rail

Michael Savage - Newsmax.com - Wednesday, May 30, 2001

Gerhard Schröder. Tony Blair. Bill Clinton. And now, Tom Daschle. What do these men have in common? They are relatively "good looking," they wear "good suits," they all smile too much, and they are all New World Order socialists.

But socialism is dead, you say. And you are right. Dead as a word but very much alive as policy.

The emphasis on "free prescription drugs" during the presidential campaign is but one example of socialized medicine (orchestrated during the "debates" by that baggy-eyed Bolshevik Jim Lehrer of PBS - People's Bolshevik Service). The increase in spending on "education" - without emphasizing creativity or performance - another socialist sacred cow.

Health and education are always pushed as the great triumphs of socialism. In Stalinist Cuba people are said to be tired of hearing that.

"We have been saying that for 42 years ... What else is there? The revolution had great ideas in the beginning. Fidel was a brilliant organizer. But he stayed in the past," said a construction worker in a recent newspaper interview.

Health and education. Free prescription drugs. More educrats. Less learning. "Medicare. Medicaid. Education." And, of course, now "the environment." The mantras of the Third Way. Health, education, the environment.

In England, the Third Way Fuhrer Blair floods the small island with Asians and Africans. To teach white boys about "international diversity." Race riots ensue. Soon government power will also grow. "To restore order ... to protect immigrants." To give the English dictator absolute power.

In Germany, the former street criminal Schröder, a lifetime anti-American communist who now wears designer suits and smiles a lot, recently rebuilt Hitler's seat of government. He now openly touts German power and ambitions and dreams of a European army, under his command.

In the name of pragmatism this "Third Way" manager pushes experiments on embryos. To select traits, you see. When challenged by ethicists who see the stalking horse of the extensive euthanasia program and other Nazi medical experiments meant to create an unblemished master Aryan race, the smiling, suited, street thug says, "Our moral responsibility is also to take care of our jobs and well being."

Always the managers, these Third Way would-be dictators are leading the world to the Third Rail. Absolute power wielded by a few thousand new-Mandarins while the rest of humanity bathes in the pollution of entertainment (i.e. violence and pornography), sports and shopping.

Police Nab Breast-Temptress Thieves

BOGOTA, Colombia (Reuters) - Three young Colombian women preyed on men by smearing their breasts with a powerful drug and luring the victims into taking a lick, before making off with their wallets and cars, police said on Friday.

The women stood by the side of the road near bars and restaurants in wealthy parts of the capital Bogota, striking seductive poses to lure men driving by to stop, a police spokeswoman told Reuters.

After licking the women's breasts, the men lost all will-power. They came to their senses hours later to find they had lost their wallets and cars but with no memory of what had happened.

The three women, in their late teens or early 20s, were arrested in Bogota on Thursday in possession of powerful narcotic pills.

``They dissolved the pills in water and rubbed it into their breasts,'' the spokeswoman said.

Message: Just when Americans breathed relief that Arkansas could not produce anything downhill from Orval Faubus, they afflicted us with Bill and Hillary Clinton, who have brought our nation around a bend in the road that enables Americans to catch a glimpse of Armageddon. Via the reek of their corruption, America has begun to draw scavengers. The Clinton's deterioration of our freedom, dishonor of their offices, pollution of our ethos, and generalized depravity, have given tyranny a foothold in the bog they have made of our culture, and has run down the future until it has become a slum neighborhood in which our children must live. Lamentably, we live in a political age when all the world's leaders are worthless simpering buttercups. One sickens at the prospect of Tony Blair's candy ass resting on a pew in the House of Commons that once pedestaled the noble haunches of William Pitt, Benjamin Disraeli and Winston Churchill. In our country, politics reached its nadir with Bill Clinton, the only sonofabitch in America you can call a liar, a traitor, or a pervert (or for that matter a sonofabitch, as I do here) without getting into a fistfight, because Clinton's also a coward. In a time of danger, or even risk, a sluice gate opens in his viscera and releases a pond into his pants of sufficient volume to stock with trout. It will be remembered, rather than stand with his countrymen in Viet Nam, Clinton spent his time at Oxford sniffing chairs, hoping to catch an after-fragrance of the limp and supercilious Sebastian Flyte. Clinton is the liar's' liar, the traitor's traitor, the pervert's pervert, and the scumbag's scumbag. In order to look presidential by comparison, he surrounded himself with bureaucratic ciphers that are all tapioca pudding and false grit. His Cabinet boasts not one individual of purpose or character who has the courage to suggest an alternative, let alone oppose him. Most have little worthwhile experience. They are the "Ain't Been There - Ain't Done That Gang." (Despite her worthless adventures in the UN, it is apparent, Secretary of State Madeleine Albright's most significant experience in foreign relations is once having had breakfast in The International House of Pancakes.) Hillary, the Arkansas Maggot, wants to be dictator more than many Americans want to be free. Deluged by the weight and frequency of her lies, Americans have gone insensate. The adjustment to this is least arduous for Clinton's most loyal (read: susceptible) constituency - the ignorant, who have always met all tests of perception with The Numb Response. The other people they send to the Senate further corroborate that.

The Clinton infestation has termite-weakened America's national defense structure for oily political money, and subverted faith in our system of government with sneaky and labyrinthine backroom legislative connivance. Now comes the demolition ball: confiscation, curfew, and extralegal Arkansas-type Nuremberg laws. Aspiring despots need an Orwellian paradox as a catalyst for their usurpation of power, especially the particularly furtive, on the sly, under the table, thief in the night, backdoor, despot-in-waiting Bill Clinton. Thus, and with straight face, Clinton will propose himself as the only viable alternative to the corruption he has created, in a sense the venomous antidote to his own venom.

It is the standard operating procedure of despots to oppress people to the point of acting rashly, then crushing them for it. Like Hitler, Hillary will keep "up-ing the ante" of his demands on the American people's freedom until they have no choice but to resist - and then he will move in with armed and lunatic force. (We recall, with anguish, the "fuzz" who descended on Ruby Ridge and bullhorned defiantly, "We hear you people are survivalists. Let's see what ya' got!" Survivalists these rural folks may have been. Survive, they did not.)

Politicians are as totalitarian as we allow them to be. If we continue to tolerate the Clinton epidemic of sin, I don’t believe we can, in good conscience, ask Jesus to endure another crucifixion to get us off the hook.

He even voted for "Hillary care",

Good for him.

partial-birth abortion

No such thing. You don't birth an "abortion" - thats a contradiction in terms.

and a number of other issues that are properly described as "radical left".

The whacko GOP right thinks everything they don't do is radical left. Your point?

Jeffords is no "man of conscience". He ran as a Republican in the last election prepared to bolt the party.

You of course have zero proof of this lame accusation, not knowing exactly what was in Jeffords' head or what his intent was at the time he was elected. Rightwingers don't need facts or proof of anything. They have fairy tales, rumors and name calling instead.

As to any "lockstep, groupthink fascists" attitude, it appears that over 1,500 politicians bailed the Democrat party in the last eight years to escape the narrow-minded and radical left.

Using your logic, I would just say they bolted to become part of a growing majority party. Pretty selfish. Do I have proof of this? Why no, but when using your logic, who needs any?

What offense did Clinton plead guilty to? The Republican political hacks (special prosecutors) knew, without question, that they would lose if they tried Clinton in Washington, D. C. In other words, Clinton would have been cleared of all charges, and that would not be good for the Republicans who, in a partisan effort, impeached and tried Clinton. The partisan Republican hacks could not even get a majority of the Republican-controlled Senate to vote to sustain even one article of impeachment. I wish Clinton would have been tried in D.C. because he would have been found "not guily" on all counts.

Who Should Own a Gun? Who should not own a gun?

You got that whole post from my little sentence? All I am saying is that this IDIOT thinks that by banning guns from churches he is going to stop people from going inside with a gun for the purpose of crime. This is LUNACY! You might as well hang a sign on the door stating that no resistance will be given in the event of a violent confrontation. LUNACY.

Where is the 'separation of church and state' crowd on this??

They pass this law and I will go buy the biggest shotgun (i don't own a gun) and bring it to church every time I go.

As for who should own a gun? Anyone that hasn't been deemed dangerous enough not to own one by their own action. IE: they rob a liquor store at gun point. They murdered, they raped...they get no gun rights until they can prove to the court that they can handle having rights again. There are certainly mental conditions that would warrant not allowing gun ownership too.

The real problem with gun crime is that we don't punish criminals. We give them a life of cable T.V. and 3 square meals. I say, NO TV, NO Magazines. Hard labor, hard mattresses. Make them not want to come back, make them think crime doesn't pay. Make them tell their community, that crime doesn't pay.

It really blows my mind that people could think registration or barring guns in church will solve anything. All new laws will do is make the black market on guns raise the price. If full registration was enacted, it might cost you 3 weeks worth of food stamps to get a .45., instead of two. It will do NOTHING to gun crime.

Are you saying that:

1. All must have guns. All must have the RIGHT to have guns unless they have given up the right. (see; criminals)
2. Adults over...must have guns
3. Only adults that have not been convicted of a felony must have guns
4. Only adults that have been trained in knowledge and action should have guns
5. Only adults who have registered should have guns
6. Only responsible adults who intuit the need for a gun should have guns.

What is with this MUST stuff?

And who must NOT have guns?
1.Felons (depends on situations)
2.Children
3.Mentally unstable (depends on situations)
4.People who have never fired a gun and never want to
5.People who are trigger-happy (depends on situations, trigger happy at a paper target?)

Murderers, rapists, repeat offenders of robbery....

Message: Gun and rifle registration along with mandatory sentences for possession of an unregistered gun or rifle will put criminals away. The problem is that the police (who want registration, by the way) might take advantage of a registration law to target known criminals (gang members, etc.). If the police can search the premises or property of known criminals, the chances are they will find unregistered guns or rifles. So the police make something up so that they can get a warrant. Or they trump up some situation where they just "must" move in to protect someone. And, lo and behold, they find an unregistered gun or rifle. All the possible problems, notwithstanding, on balance, I think registration of guns and rifles with mandatory sentences for violators would cut crimes involving guns, maybe drastically. But the Hestons and his ilk are hysterical when it comes to registration of guns and rifles. I have not heard even one logically conceived scenario under the U.S. system of government and laws where gun and rifle registration would lead to confiscation. I have read a lot of hysterical crap by the right wing. But no logically conceived scenario.

Ghost I have to hand it to ya, you're one of the most shameless hypocrites I've ever seen. At least you got the balls to be one and not try to cover it up. Thats a good mark
for you.

Hey, and you are one of the biggest idiots I've ever seen! At least you have the balls to show it every day. Can we cut the POOP?

You bitch about "liberals" wanting more government and less freedom. While you happily plug for a party that pushed the Defense of Marriage Act, which allows states to
ban marriage between homosexual partners. Yes, some dems voted for it...but it was the rightwing hyperchristian GOPers that dreamt it up and pushed it through.

I plug for reps? NO, I plug for conservatism. There is a differnce. OH! and lookie here, you prove my point in the next paragraph! I could care less if homosexuals join and butt fuck or eat box all night. Go to it! You really must learn not to mind read and put thoughts and words into my mouth. Kind of ironic however that marrage is a relgious institution. How about a better choice of words, like, 'civil union'. We must maintain political correctness here and religion has become politically incorrect.

You bitch about freedom, while you laud the party of John McCain, who concocted the Internet Filtering Act - for lack of better terms, internet censorship.

McCain is a LIBERAL. I bitch about freedom because LIBERALS want to limit it. Good case in point. THANKS.

You whine about more guhmint, as you cheer on the GOP - known anti-Roe V. Wade juggernaut. Guess its not a big government act to climb into a woman's womb and
rule her body functions.

I cheer CONSERVATISM, not the GOP. It just so happens in the GOP vs. DEM arena (this is a 2 party system in case you haven't noticed) the GOP is more close to my ideals. ROE vs. Wade is a FARCE! And it certainly isn't a doctors job to climb into a womens womb and rip the life out of her. So much for 'do no harm'. Conservatives can argue that babies in the womb are life and therefor constitutionally protected. You cannot argue that a woman has a constitutional right to 'choice'. The choice began when the women opened her legs. (Oh gees, I see the rape/incest argument coming)

You cry about how the "liberals" pit groups against each other, blind to the history that it has always been the LIBERALS (not always Dem mind you) that have
spearheaded movements for social reform, justice and civil rights. The Modern Liberals (post-'64 Civil Rights Libs) have been the vanguards of them. They have been the
champions of tolerance and respect to other ethnic, religious and racial groups. You have Rush Limbaugh.

You are a hoot! We are talking about today, not 40 years ago. Our founding fathers were LIBERAL. What is your point? Liberalism is relative. Today we have libs fighting for the life of trees and little frogs while fighting for the right of a mother to kill her unborn child. And you call me a hypocrite? Today we have liberals wanting to take the right to associate. ACLU vs. Boyscouts. Today we have liberals pushing for unequal treatment for crimes...Hatecrime legislation. Unequal hiring practices...Affirmative action. etc..etc..

I guess you never seen me post criticism of Rush Limbaugh. I don't know how you couldn't, you seem to know what I believe and stand for.

You bellyache that we liberals and leftists characterize you conservatives as in favor of killing children and the old. I wonder where we got that from? A liberal said it, that is where! Could it be the reality
that slashing slashing slashing social programs and the taxes that pay for them is actually going to harm these very groups? LIE! Nobody was 'slashing' any programs. They just wouldn't let liberals throw as much money at the problem as they wanted. Again, what political movement started and fought for the abolition of child labor? UMM, liberalism? Which we already established was relative. For social security? For Medicaid? GI Bill? Safe drinking water and food? For the right of women and Blacks to vote? For the right of working people to organize for a fair wage, work day and safe working condition? LIBERALS my friend, that's who.

Yes, I know, I know, Conservatives want to kill kill kill. Starve starve starve. You've been brainwashed.

Tell me, what political movement wants to fix social security before we must AGAIN raise the tax and reduce the benefit???? HMMMM????? Who wanted to fix medicaid while being attacked from the left for wanting to have it 'whither on the vine'???? HMMMM? We have safe water and food, we all have the right to vote. Are you saying I am against it? We have unions and certain unions have become corrupt political tools. Did someone credit NIXON for OSHA?? Hmm, blew you away didn't it! Was NIXON a liberal? guess so. Relative my friend, relative.

Todays liberals are socialist micromanagers that want to sniff up your butt to make sure you are not putting too much meat into the limited flush toilet.

No doubt you haven't read two lines of this before you're already formulating a comeback. Pretty hard not too! And on it goes. Back and forth. But that doesnt bother me anymore, because one
thing I've learned is that in the end, people believe what they want to believe. You will continue to be blind to the crime, lies, sleaze, hate, chicanery and goofs of your ideology because that's what you want to do. Well go at it. Just know that you have opposition. And it's growing.

Wow, you really know what I am blind to, huh? Boy, you got me pegged. ;)

Conservativism is not a desire to maintain the status quo. Conservativism is a burning desire to eliminate all shared and interdependent societal action with selfish, class-separating (with Conservatives ALWAYS to be in the ruling class), short term "solutions" to invented problems. A perfect example: A liberal does not decry too many abortions, for he knows that unwanted children grow up to be uncivilized adults, whereas a conservative DEMANDS that a pregnant woman carry to term, for two reasons. 1. An 18-year dependency is almost sure to keep her out of the competition for the conservatives job (as the Red V. Blue map shows, most conservatives live in the uneducated center of the nation, where there is neither high-tech nor higher learning, so the jobs held by conservatives tend to be brain dead efforts that an undereducated woman could do as well as he.), and 2. the conservative WANTS that unwanted bastard child to grow up as a social problem, how else can the conservative continue to increase funding for the prison and TLA industries, which are dominated by white southern males.
Liberalism presumes that any process that reduces the common wheal to such narrow definitions as "White makes right" (the motto of Tom DeLay, Bob Barr and Trent Lott's social club, the Council of Conservative Citizens), or "He that has the gold, makes the rules" are reprehensible and ultimately destined to fail. With white men now accounting for only 1 in 4 American Citizens, and only 25% of households being "traditional" 2 partner married types, the liberal seeks as a first course of action, to facilitate and improve the lives of the majority.
Just as in the Selection, Liberals want all people to count, conservatives want only rich people to count.
So I guess that makes you a bigotted, self-serving, chauvinistic conservative after all.

'Jane Roe' Is Now an Abortion Foe

NewsMax.com Wires - Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001

NEW YORK (UPI) – No More Roe is the name of a Catholic pro-life ministry trying to dissuade pregnant women from having an abortion. And guess who is heading this Dallas-based group? None other than Norma McCorvey, 53, otherwise known as Jane Roe.

It was under this legal guise that she won the U.S. Supreme Court's landmark decision legalizing abortion 28 years ago. Her adversary was Henry Wade, then district attorney of Dallas.

Cigar-chomping Wade had previously attained international fame as the colorful prosecutor in Jack Ruby's murder trial. Ruby was the killer of Lee Harvey Oswald, President John Kennedy's alleged assassin.

Since Roe vs. Wade, 38 million legal abortions have been performed in the United States, according to Pat Buchanan, the Reform Party candidate in the 2000 presidential election.

Ironically, McCorvey never had an abortion herself. Once a self-described "lesbian activist," she nevertheless carried three pregnancies to term, including the one that was the object of the Roe vs. Wade case. It had been, she once said, the "result of a fleeting affair."

In the end, McCorvey gave her children up for adoption. And this is one alternative to abortion "No More Roe" is promoting. "We also direct callers from around the country to pro-life counselors near their home towns," Connie Gonzalez, one of McCorvey's three volunteers, told United Press International on Monday.

Louisiana-born McCorvey now says, "I think we all have the same dream: We'd like so see Roe v. Wade overturned."

To get to this point, McCorvey had traveled a tortuous journey. She spent much of her childhood in reform schools. "I ran away from home when I was 10 and spent several decades supporting myself with odd jobs: a carnival barker, a waitress, a bartender, cleaning apartments, construction work," she wrote in an article for her own Web site.

In the end, she wound up working for a Dallas abortuary where she was prone to a shower of callers unleashing unprintable insults, Texas Monthly magazine reported in 1995.

"Would you like to see how we murder babies?" she would say. "Why don't you bring your embryos along? We'll kill them, too."

The Empty Playground

Perhaps her first doubts about her role in opening the floodgates to the death of up to 1.5 million unborn babies a year in the United States came when she passed an empty playground.

"There were all those swings swinging by themselves in the wind, and there wasn't a child in sight. And I said to myself, 'Oh, my God, these playgrounds are empty because all the children have been aborted."

Then something curious happened. The Rev. Philip "Flip" Benham, leader of Operation Rescue, moved into an office next door to the abortuary where McCorvey worked.

Until then, McCorvey had called this brash cleric "Flip Venom," and he had accused her of "being responsible for the deaths of 35 million children," McCorvey wrote. Slowly, the two office workers who were supposed to be enemies became friends.

The Child Who Might Have Been Killed

But it was Emily, the 7-year-old daughter of Operation Rescue volunteer Ronda Mackey, whose love really triggered McCorvey's conversion. Mackey's car carried a bumper sticker with a vivid red heart on the side. It read, "Abortion Stops a Beating Heart."

Mackey confessed to McCorvey that she had almost had Emily aborted.

Emily visited McCorvey frequently in her office. "Emily's blatant affection, frequent hugs and direct pursuit disarmed me," she recalled.

"On one occasion, I invited Emily into my office. … During one phone call, I lost my temper and said to a caller, 'I just as soon see you in hell as I see you in here.' "

At that point, Emily interjected: "You don't have to go to hell, Miss Norma. You can pray right now, and Jesus will forgive you."

'Help Miss Norma'

In her Web article, McCorvey calls Emily "the little evangelist," who prayed every morning: "Dear God, please don't let any babies be killed, and make it so that abortion will end. And help Miss Norma to come to Jesus."

"Emily kept asking me if I would come with her to church. Finally I said 'yes.' " Less than a year after Benham had moved his office next to McCorvey, he baptized her in a swimming pool. Later she joined the Catholic Church.

And so now Norma McCorvey, whose alias, "Roe," has become a synonym for what euphemistically is called "choice," calls herself "100 percent pro-life." "No exceptions," she adds. "No compromise."

'Jane Roe' Takes Roe. V. Wade Back To Court
By Christine Hall - CNSNews.com Staff Writer - June 01, 2001

(CNSNews.com) - Nearly three decades after the Supreme Court legalized abortion nationwide, the original plaintiff in the landmark Roe v. Wade case is urging a federal court to reconsider the 1973 Supreme Court decision.

"My case was wrongfully decided and has caused great harm to the women and children of our nation," said Norma McCorvey, better known as "Jane Roe." McCorvey had a change of heart about abortion in the years since the Supreme Court ruling.

McCorvey and Sandra Cano (of the Roe companion case Doe v. Bolton) filed a friend-of-the-court brief in a class action lawsuit on Thursday in the federal 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals.

McCorvey and Cano want their respective cases overturned so that the class action suit against abortion providers can proceed.

The two are represented by the Texas Justice Foundation, a San Antonio-based public interest law firm. Their brief states that their cases were improperly applied by the lower court in dismissing the class action suit, which is now on appeal to the 3rd Circuit.

According to Allan Parker, CEO and founder of the Texas Justice Foundation, the class action lawsuit alleges in part that neither the state of New Jersey nor abortion providers adequately protect the health of women and the life of the unborn child.

In the case of one plaintiff, her parents allegedly forced her to have an abortion. On top of that, the abortion clinic allegedly never asked for her consent.

The other two plaintiffs allege that abortion clinics gave them false or misleading information, not telling them that the abortion would "take a human life."

"There are other states that ... have allowed you to sue for the loss of life in the womb," said Parker. "We call that a denial of equal protection. Some women in some states whose children are injured while in the womb can recover legally for damages."

"In this case, in New Jersey, they're not allowed to recover for injuries to children in the womb," she said.

Abortion law expert Michael Scaperlanda of the University of Oklahoma College of Law says that whatever the legal merits of the case, the court of public opinion may be more important for the time being.

"You're fighting this battle on two fronts: the courts and public opinion," said Scaperlanda.

"If they can get the courts and or the public, and preferably both, to see that abortion really is in many instances coerced - either legally or just persuaded - then maybe that will turn the tide of public opinion more and more against abortion," he said.

The court probably will not give weight to the fact that Norma McCorvey and Sandra Cano have filed amicus briefs, said Scaperlanda. "But it is a value added, and that is whether the court pays attention to it and the extent that the media pays attention."

"Also," Scaperlanda added, "if they can successfully sue doctors, it raises the cost and makes it more likely doctors won't want to pursue it."

Abortion foes should pursue a strategy that is very similar to the strategy employed by civil rights activists that toppled segregated schools and led to Brown v. Board of Education, Scaperlanda advised.

"You do it incrementally at first. You go after the things that all of society is going to agree are the most egregious things."

A simple test that could save your (political) health

Linda Bowles - May 30, 2001
http://www.jewishworldreview.com --
WHEN President George Bush announced a few months after his inauguration that the United States would not implement the Kyoto Protocol on global warning, his political opponents in the Democrat Party publicly deplored what he had done and privately celebrated it.

They believed they had found the heavy-duty issue that could enable them to recapture the White House. Their propaganda mills began to grind out the message that Bush and Dick Cheney are willing to pollute the air and spoil the water to protect the interests of "big oil."

As usual, the undeclared liberals in the mainstream media cooperated fully in helping the Democrat Party make its case. According to the Media Research Center, the major networks gave almost 70 percent of their airtime on global warming to the pro-Kyoto doomsayers.

This is how CBS's John Roberts reported the story: "Global temperatures on the rise, glaciers retreating, storms more frequent and severe -- a looming crisis, say many scientists, of the greenhouse effects. Yet, claiming potential harm to the economy, the White House today confirmed it will abandon the global accord to curb emissions of carbon dioxide, the No. 1 greenhouse gas."

Doing its part, Time Magazine made this scathing assertion in a 15-page special report: "Except for nuclear war or a collision with an asteroid, no force has more potential to damage our planet's web of life than global warming."

Given this background, I would like for you to participate in a short test, sampling your knowledge of the Kyoto Protocol. The correct answers are revealed below. No peeking allowed.

1. Since the Kyoto Protocol was adopted in 1997 by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, how many nations subject to its provisions have ratified it? A) 155; B) 50; C) 1.

2. In July 1997, the U.S. Senate voted on a resolution that declared the United States would not ratify the Kyoto Treaty. How did the vote turn out? A) Most Democrats voted against this resolution, and most Republicans voted for it: B) There was no difference between the two parties.

3. Some developing nations are exempted from the provisions of the Kyoto Treaty. What percent of the world's population is exempt? A) 10 percent; B) 40 percent; C) 80 percent.

4. The Kyoto Protocol requires industrialized countries to: A) maintain greenhouse gases at their current level; B) reduce greenhouse gases from current levels by 5 percent by 2012; C) reduce greenhouse gases 5 percent from what they were in 1990 by 2012.

5. There is a clear consensus among knowledgeable scientists that global warming is a dangerous reality caused by human activity, and that full compliance with the Kyoto Protocol will solve the problem. A) Yes; B) No.

Here are the answers: 1) C -- Only Romania has ratified the treaty. 2) B -- The vote against ratification was unanimous. 3) C -- China, India, Brazil and Mexico are among the exempt nations. 4) C -- However, Clinton volunteered the United States would reduce its emissions 7 percent below 1990 levels. 5) B -- There is no scientific consensus.

Charli E. Coon of the Heritage Foundation writes, "Failing to include developing countries in the reduction goals will negate any reductions that industrialized countries could achieve." For example, "World coal use will increase by 30 percent between 1999 and 2020, with China and India alone accounting for 90 percent of that increase."

Dr. Kenneth Green, director of the environmental program at the Reason Public Policy Institute, concluded that the Kyoto Protocol is based on simplistic models that "project an appearance of certainty that is not supported by the evidence in underlying technical reports and ... mainstream science journals."

James Hansen of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies concluded that entirely too much emphasis has been given to carbon dioxide. As noted by The Washington Post, Hansen's study should "remind us that climate issues are complex, far from fully understood and open to a variety of approaches. It should serve as a caution to environmentalists so sure of their position that they're willing to advocate radical solutions, no matter what the economic cost."

John Christy, professor of atmospheric science at the University of Alabama, speaks for many environmental scientists when he writes, "Climate models are at the infancy of being able to predict the climate future."

Bush did the right thing. He is not willing to put his country at risk and stifle its economy based on suspect data and flawed models purporting to forecast what the climate will be like 20 years from now.

Sandpoint, Idaho. A modern American tragedy in the making. That's what the Sagle, Idaho, McGuckin family "standoff" represents.

The McGuckin family home and the 40 acres upon which it stands were recently sold for a pittance by the county government for past-due taxes. It brought only $50,000, while the property is in prime territory, with fully half of Beaver Lake on its eastern edge.

Dad died recently, after a long and valiant struggle with multiple sclerosis, not of "malnutrition and dehydration," which has widely and falsely been reported as the cause of death. Just a couple days after this tight-knit family buried Dad, county government lured her out with a promise of money and free groceries, then arrested her, leaving them only to have to deal with the kids. That was a mistake, of course, but not their first.

Rather than allow this tightly-knit family a decent period to grieve the loss of their beloved husband and father, the county government instead is doing its best to make the family's worst nightmare come true.

For years, Mrs. McGuckin has been fearful of the government taking her property and her kids. Today, that fear is realized, with the issuance of an order through Child Protection Services, making the six children its wards. Of course, the Sheriff can't get near the house to make good on that order.

She has been jailed on a charge of felony child endangerment, allegedly for not providing a proper home for the children, including food, hygiene and education.

Well, admittedly the running water is off temporarily, because the well pump broke and, what with Dad's severe condition as his days drew to a close, they just didn't have the time or the money to deal with it properly. So, they drew water from the crystal-clear lake on their property for washing and to flush their toilets with. And, yes, the laundry did pile up, but what family doesn 't have a few domestic backlogs when it loses its patriarch?

And the children are home schooled, fact which makes them politically incorrect, even by North Idaho standards.

But, they do have food, contrary to reports, and the power was hooked up and paid for when Mrs. McGuckin was arrested.

Are they armed?Who knows?Nobody has seen any weapons and no gunshots have been fired. Sheriff Jarvis has shown great prudence in executing the orders he is lawfully obligated to follow. He did not cut off any essential services, as has been reported. He has vowed to keep his men well away from the house and allow us time to effect a peaceful resolution to this crisis.

That resolution must begin with the release from custody of JoAnn McGuckin and the rescission of the order giving custody of her children over to the government.Friends and family stand ready to accept responsibility for the children while Mrs. McGuckin puts her life in order and proves the outrageous charges against herself to be false. However, the demand by the county Prosecuting Attorney that the bail, initially set for $10,000, be elevated to $100,000, effectively guarantees that Mrs. McGuckin will not be given that opportunity.

We are now asking the court for a reduction in the bond requirement and will then seek a modification to the CPS order, whereby the children are given over, as a single unit, to the custody of a trusted family friend. Then, we will take on these outlandish charges and give them the ignominious end that they deserve. We are also investigating this highly-questionable attempted seizure of the McGuckin family home.

Donations to the family can be made to: McGuckin Family Trust, PO Box 1255, Sagle, ID 83860.

The McGuckin property sits on Beaver Lake which adds to its value. Waterfront property has become the status symbol for many people with money. It is most likely one hidden reason the county did not try to hard to help this woman and her family. County government will make a killing on it when it is resold. Meanwhile they have managed to make the McGukins look like child beating white trash. The county has set her bond at $ 100,000 --raised from $10,000 which makes you ask, is she guilty of murder? When their mom was arrested the 6 kids decided to fight back and have barricaded themselves in their home.

this is how the government using 'child protective services' can and will declare you insane so that you can never legally own a firearm to defend yourself against them. i'm sending a few bucks-hope you do to. [EDITOR] Thanks for this letter Magpie. This tragedy is very sad, but please don't blame us liberals for this. We do not agree with this tragedy. You hurt their case blaming liberals. I cannot imagine liberals would favor this kind of thing. No liberal I know for sure.

Oh, they will come up with a way to disarm you...... and then you will be taken like the sheep were in Germany, Cuba, Russia, Cambodia, etc. This has been going on for a very long time.....

Message: Thanks for this letter Magpie. This tragedy is very sad, but please don't blame us liberals for this. We do not agree with this tragedy. You hurt their case blaming liberals. I cannot imagine liberals would favor this kind of thing. No liberal I know for sure.

did i use the word liberal? you just don't get it do you? it doesn't matter what any individual thinks when the faceless beauracrats get involved. the liberals love to create these do gooder-self serving departments which get out of control. no one mentioned liberals so stop with the persecution complex.

Death threats received by Jeffords!!

The Repugs are vicious prats and it's gotten steadily worse over the years. Back when Clinton won in 1992 they were just nauseatingly nasty. Now the GOP is the party of homicidal lunatics. For all their screaming about how liberals want to shred the Constitution and American flag, they are the ones running around firing guns, throwing bombs, and trying to bully or browbeat anyone who doesn't think their way.

For Pete's sake, this is exemplified by the fact they incessantly try to portray America's biggest threat as being "the PC police keeping nativity scenes out of the public eye during Christmas," "preferential treatment of minorities," or "uppity labor unions demanding everything." No, sorry, folks, but liberals preaching tolerance and respect for diversity is NOT our biggest threat, poke as much fun as you will at it. Our biggest threat is from those among us who will stir up the ignorant, gullible and resentful masses against one another so that the puppetmasters may sit back and profit in the aftermath. The Repugs feed on hate - hate of the "gun grabbers," hate of the "aggressive women," with the nerve to demand equal rights, hate of the "deviant gays forcing their lifestyle on you," and hate of the "whacko environmentalists who hate capitalism since they don't have jobs." That's how the highly-paid shills whip up the sheep, and death threats against Jim Jeffords are but one symptom of that mentality.

The beginning of the end of any dignity or credibility they once had started a long time ago for the Repugs. Clinton caused them to whip themselves into such a disgustingly hypocritical frenzy that, like a drunken argument between two people, they laid their entire public personality on the table. The day will come when they are rightfully seen as the party of destructive extremists and they will wither away out of the public eye. Let's hope that is the case - and that they aren't given the opportunity to drag others down with them when they go.
