Kofigate Gets Going

ASHINGTON — All our July chin-pulling about polls and veeps and C.I.A. missteps has little to do with November's election, which will be decided by unforeseeable events.

Instead, let's counter-program, to examine a political corruption story beginning to gain traction that will reach warp speed in hearings and headlines next spring.

At least eight official investigations have begun into the largest financial rip-off in history: preliminary estimates from the G.A.O. point to $10 billion skimmed or kicked back or otherwise stolen in the U.N. dealings with Saddam Hussein.

Seeking to manage the news of the scandal, U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan appointed former Fed chairman Paul Volcker to head an internal investigation. That seemed to slam the door on U.N. cooperation with truly independent inquiries, but Volcker last week announced that "appropriate memorandums of understanding with a number of official investigatory bodies are in place or in negotiation."

To overcome criticism like mine of his committee's lack of subpoena power or ability to take testimony under oath, Volcker has hooked up with Robert Morgenthau, the Manhattan district attorney, who has been prosecuting two men in an unrelated distressed debt case at BNP Paribas; that's the French bank the U.N. used for its oil-for-food letters of credit. That grand old prosecutor has a staff skilled at following money and has sitting grand juries available to encourage truth-telling.

Morgenthau's crew, in turn, has a collaborative relationship (pardon the expression) with the nonpartisan staff of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations (P.S.I.). The U.N. has stonewalled three committees of the U.S. Congress, refusing to reveal its 55 internal audits, claiming that our State Department's members on the U.N. "661 committee" had approved all kickback-ridden contracts.

But State has been slow-walking Congressional requests for documents that reveal its own poor oversight and that embarrass the U.N., which it now wants to placate. State could impede the hunt overseas through mutual legal-assistance treaties, and can continue to diddle the House committees of Henry Hyde and Chris Shays, but our diplomats cannot evade chairman's letters from the Senate P.S.I.

Who else is on the trail of the skimmed billions, much of it owed to those Kurdish Iraqis shortchanged by U.N. dispensers of largess? Playing catch-up to Morgenthau, a Justice Department U.S. attorney in New York has subpoenaed records of several American oil companies; our Treasury Department charged a couple of minor players with illegal transactions with Iraq.

Meanwhile, back in Baghdad, where much of the grandest larceny ignored by the U.N. originated, the investigation by the old Governing Council was stopped by Paul Bremer because its leaks ed the world and upset the U.N. The search for damning documents was re-launched under non-Chalabi auspices, but the chairman of Iraq's Supreme Audit Board, Ihsan Karim, was killed on his way to work two weeks ago. Criminal enterprises have heavy money at stake in this.

Volcker, still in a start-up stage after four months, assures The Wall Street Journal he hired a great senior staff. But one is Richard Murphy, former ambassador to Saudi Arabia and a veteran Arab apologist on TV. Will he prevail on Jordan's king to get the Philadelphia Investment Corporation in Amman to open its files about financing favored "beneficiaries"? Or dare to demand the United Arab Emirates order its Al Wasel and Babel trading company to explain the lucrative electrical projects that had nothing to do with food?

Another is Prof. Mark Pieth of the University of Basel, of high repute in countering money laundering. Key to the transmission of oil-for-food funds is Cotecna Inspections, a Swiss corporation that got the U.N. contract to monitor deliveries and whose "notice of arrival" was pure gold to corrupt sellers. Mr. Annan's son was its consultant just before the fat contract was issued; even after a U.N. audit showed suspicious inspection inadequacies, Cotecna's contract was expanded. Professor Pieth's work will be judged on whether he can crack Swiss government secrecy to reveal the goings-on at Cotecna.

These investigations were triggered by the press. But why should competitive journalists wait months for official leaks? Bankers, traders and honest U.N. underlings are eager to whis-tleblow; shoe-leather reporting is required to hot-foot the watchmen now that they are finally awake.

A senior Democrat in Congress has said talk of postponement is "excessive" (i.e.: "Fascist").

But the greedy Republicans don't want Americans to have even this abysmally low salary, since THEY WANT to HOARD ALL their MONEY, (mostly made by crooked corporation deals, & by stock market manipulations, & by inheritance.) But they can't pay actual WORKERS a decent wage, & would rather give jobs to foreign workers, & invest in Iraqi oil & drugs, & arms smuggling. THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL.

They broke into Dem Hdqtrs (Watergate) to bug the offices & steal supplies, & videotape Dem Congressmen in attempts to blackmail them. They stole NATO supplies & smuggled dope to create money to fund a secret revolution in Nicaragua (IRAN-CONTRA), ---- they bribed Ayatollah to hold our American hostages for several extra weeks, just so Reagan could take the credit for their return. George can declare you to be a "terrorist", such as IF you are an environmentalist & believe in protecting wildlife, harp seals, or Nature. OR if you belong to the so-called "terrorist" organization of NEA, (teachers union).

Like in all Fascist dictatorships, they always arrest the teachers & smart people, at the same time as they are imprisoning the opposition leaders. Lucky kids won't be required to go to school anymore. In fact, education is optional. The Govt will point to our Feuhrer, Geo Bush as an Example that "You don't gotta be smart to be President". In 1979, "the largest covert operation in the history of the CIA" was launched due to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan --" 2

With the active encouragement of the CIA and Pakistan's ISI [Intelligence], who wanted to turn the Afghan jihad into a global war -- waged by all Muslim states against the Soviet Union, -- some 35,000 Muslim radicals from 40 Islamic countries joined Afghanistan's fight between 1982 and 1992. The CIA, using Pakistan's ISI intelligence, played a key role in training the Mujahideen. In turn, the CIA-sponsored guerrilla training was "integrated with teachings of Islam":

Predominant themes: that holy Islam was being violated by the atheistic Soviet troops, and that the Islamic people of Afghanistan should assert their independence by overthrowing the leftist Afghan regime propped up by Moscow.5

In a bitter twist, while supported and financed by Osama bin Laden's "Al Qaeda",-- the KLA - NLA was also supported by NATO, & the United Nations mission to Kosovo. In fact, the "Islamic Militant Network" -- using Pakistan's Intelligence (ISI) as the CIA's go-between -- constituted an integral part of US covert operations in Serbia and Macedonia.

The KLA-NLA terrorists were funded from US military aid, the United Nations peace-keeping budget, as well as by several Islamic groups, including Osama bin Laden's "Al Qaeda".

As in the Ollie North Iran-Contra scandal, drug money was being used to finance the terrorists, with the complicity of the US government, while various Islamic groups recruited Mujahideen to join NLA in Macedonia.

12) John Kerry missed 64% of his votes in the Senate last year and has missed more than 80% of them this year. If John Kerry isn't bothering to do the job he has, wouldn't it be a mistake to give him a promotion?

13) John Kerry claims to believe that life begins at conception. Yet, he voted against bills that would have banned partial birth abortion 6 times and he "also voted three times against bills requiring parental consent or notification for a minor to get an abortion. He also opposed making it a federal crime for anyone other than a parent to transport a minor across state lines to obtain an abortion." 18) When the going got tough, George Bush got going and fought tooth and nail to give tax relief to American families. He worked hard to end the marriage penalty, increased the size of the child tax credit, gave Americans their hard earned tax dollars back in the form of rebates, and saw to it that 92 million Americans got to keep an average of $1,083 more of their own money.

23) In Afghanistan, we were told going in that the war would be long, difficult, and perhaps even unwinnable. A lesser man than George Bush might have gotten weak kneed at the prospect of sending our troops into a "mountainous Vietnam" and found some sort of excuse not to go. But, not only did we take the fight to our enemies in Afghanistan, we bombed Al-Qaeda's camps, decimated the Taliban, drove them out of power in less than two months, and sent our enemies running to Pakistan and remote caves on the Afghan border, where they live even today as hunted men. Kerry: Well, if we had kept on inspecting properly and gone through the process appropriately, we might have avoided almost a $200 billion expenditure, the loss of lives and the scorn of the world and the breaking of so many relationships.

Time: Would you say your position on Iraq is a) it was a mistaken war; b) it was a necessary war fought in a bad way; or c) fill in the blank?

Kerry: I think George Bush rushed to war without exhausting the remedies available to him, without exhausting the diplomacy necessary to put the U.S. in the strongest position possible, without pulling together the logistics and the plan to shore up Iraq immediately and effectively.

Time: And you as Commander in Chief would not have made these mistakes but would have gone to war?

Kerry: It's possible. It's not a certainty, but it's possible. I'm not going to tell you hypothetically when you've reached the point of exhaustion that you have to [use force] and your intelligence is good enough that it tells you you've reached that moment. But I can tell you this: I would have asked a lot of questions they didn't. I would have tried to do a lot of diplomacy they didn't. ...

Time: Obviously it's good that Saddam is out of power. Was bringing him down worth the cost?

Kerry: If there are no weapons of mass destruction— and we may yet find some—then this is a war that was fought on false pretenses, because that was the justification to the American people, to the Congress, to the world, and that was clearly the frame of my vote of consent. I said it as clearly as you can in my speech. I suggested that all the evils of Saddam Hussein alone were not a cause to go to war.

Time: So, if we don't find WMD, the war wasn't worth the costs? That's a yes?

Kerry: No, I think you can still—wait, no. You can't—that's not a fair question, and I'll tell you why. You can wind up successful in transforming Iraq and changing the dynamics, and that may make it worth it, but that doesn't mean [transforming Iraq] was the cause [that provided the] legitimacy to go. You have to have that distinction.

"A new poll of Iraqis shows that 68 percent have confidence in the interim government, 73 percent approve of Prime Minister Iyad Allawi, and 84 percent approve of President Ghazi Yawar. Nearly 80 percent of Iraqis expect that the new government will “make things better” for Iraq after the handover."

In January, the Iraqis are scheduled to have national elections. Iraq is steadily moving towards freedom and Democracy because of George Bush's planning and steady leadership.

27) So far, artillery shells containing mustard gas, sarin, & cyclosarin have been found in Iraq. Furthermore, former chief weapons inspector David Kay also pointed out that Iraq was "working to produce a (chemical) weapon using the poison ricin until the American invasion last March". Also, Kay noted in his interim report that the Iraqis planned to produce more weapons,

"Even those senior officials we have interviewed who claim no direct knowledge of any on-going prohibited activities readily acknowledge that Saddam intended to resume these programs whenever the external restrictions were removed.".

Thanks to George Bush, Saddam's WMD's, however many he had of them, aren't going to be a threat in the future.

28) Without question, Iraq was a nation that provided "safe haven" for terrorists with "global reach". Among them were terrormaster Abu Nidal, Abdul Rahman Yasin, one of the conspirators in the 1993 WTC bombing, "Khala Khadr al-Salahat, the man who reputedly made the bomb for the Libyans that brought down Pan Am Flight 103 over...Scotland,"Abu Abbas, mastermind of the October 1985 Achille Lauro hijacking and murder of Leon Klinghoffer," & "Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, formerly the director of an al Qaeda training base in Afghanistan" who is now believed to be leading Al-Qaeda's forces in Iraq. Quite frankly, any war on terrorism that didn't tackle that nest of vipers would have been a war in name only. Going after them showed George Bush's leadership against the global scourge of terrorism.

29) In Iraq, we removed Saddam Hussein, an anti-American tyrant & sponsor of terrorism who started two wars of aggression in the region while he simultaneously raped, tortured, and butchered his own people with a zeal matched by few figures in modern history. Once the war began, the performance of our military was incomparable. Saddam's forces were defeated, scattered to the four winds in less than a month, even as the press, a week into the war, was again baying the dreaded "V word" loud and often. George Bush made it possible.

Try this. Begin by reading the New York Times' report on the terrorist tapes which are the results of months of wiretaps on the Madrid bombing mastermind by Italian police. Keep in mind that such people are almost surely operating in the United States as well.

Then read yesterday's front page story in the Los Angeles Times Magazine by Janet Wells on the crisis in American health care which, in a stunning display of truth for the Times, is placed squarely on the backs of the plaintiffs' bar in America.

And then consider that the Democrats have nominated as their team a man who believes the war on terror to be "primarily a law enforcement matter" and a man who is the mouthpiece for the medicine destroying plaintiffs' bar.

It is the ostrich ticket --a pair of candidates committed to ignoring the most pressing international and domestic problems facing the country. And the Michael Moore Democrats are cheering.

Two other articles. First, in the Wall Street Journal lead editorial on the Senate Intelligence Committee's devastating report must be read. The devastation is visited on Joe Wilson (and by extension his blindly partisan cheerleaders like Joshua Marshall) and the entire "Bush lied" crowd. Second, Janet Hook's piece from the Los Angeles Times on state-based initiatives on gay marriage. Hook concludes that these initiatives may help Bush. Of course they will, and senators who tomorrow vote against the proposed constitutional amendment, and thus against citizen participation in the issue, will also suffer at the polls in November.

There was no Edwards bounce, and there was a pretty odd interview on 60 Minutes tonight. The news is pretty good in Iraq, and the Dems have lost momentum when they should be gaining it. What's the next trick? They invite Ron Reagan to speak at their convention, which will in turn strike many Americans as snarky. The Michael Moore Democrats are tone-deaf, hearing only their own assessments of their own paranoid policies and ham-handed maneuvers.

Kennedy showed a healthy skepticism regarding the astuteness of both political and military officials in assessing foreign threats.

And his own military experience (PT 109) as a young man had convinced him that military chiefs were not necessarily the best judges of when & how to fight a war.

As a Naval officer in 1943-44, JFK marveled at the "incompetence" of many of his superiors. In a letter to his parents from the South Pacific, As a PT Boat commander, he wrote that the Navy had "brought back a lot of old Captains and Commanders from retirement and ... they give the impression of their brains being in their tails."

He complained in a letter to a friend of "this heaving puffing war machine of ours," and lamented the "super-human ability of the Navy to screw up everything they touch."

Misgivings about the wisdom of military responses, were not enough to deter Kennedy from authorizing the Bay of Pigs invasion, (April 1961) an Eisenhower plan which fizzled when a brigade of CIA-trained Cubans were captured on the beach. Although Kennedy publicly accepted blame for the defeat, he privately wondered how he could have ever been so stupid, as to trust any CIA and military assurances about success of the attack.

Paul Nitze, (Robert McNamara's assistant) said Kennedy "was always troubled with ... how do you obtain military advice; how do you check into it; how do you have an independent view as to its accuracy and relevance?"

A 1962 taped conversation makes clear that Kennedy had a low opinion of many U.S. diplomats and Defense Department officials. He described career envoys as weak or spineless. "[Whereas] the Defense Dept looks as if that's ALL they've got. (balls) They haven't got any brains" .. "You get all this sort of virility over at the Pentagon, who are admirable guys, nice figure, without any brains."

His experiences with the Joint Chiefs of Staff deepened Kennedy's reservations about the advice he was receiving from the military. One incident that alarmed him came shortly after the Cuban Bay, when the Joint Chiefs urged Kennedy to authorize use of air and land forces in Laos, to avert a communist takeover. Kennedy wanted to know what they intended if such an operation failed. The Joint Chiefs answered, "Start using atomic weapons!"

*Lyman Lemnitzer, (Chmn of the Joint Chiefs), promised that if they were given authorization to use nuclear weapons, they could "guarantee victory". Luckily, Kennedy saw Lemnitzer's assurance as absurd.

Kennedy found AF Gen. Curtis LeMay especially intolerable. (Lemay later became the model for a deranged general in the 1964 movie "Dr. Strangelove").

Kennedy saw a decision to use nuclear weapons as a responsibility that belonged NOT to the Joint Chiefs, but to HIMSELF. It was a decision he hoped he would never have to make, & he tried very hard to ensure that.

Kennedy thought an all-out nuclear conflict would be "a truly monstrous event in US, let alone world history." Although the US had a large advantage over the Soviets, everyone concluded that a nuclear exchange would bring, "virtual incineration" to Europe, Russia, & US".

To ensure against a Soviet miscalculation, Kennedy directed McNamara to "repeat to the point of boredom" that the United States would use nuclear weapons ONLY IF it (or its allies) were directly attacked, --- & that America was NOT EVEN THINKING ABOUT "PREVENTIVE (PRE-EMPTIVE) WAR."

In a conversation with his aide, Ken O'Donnell, Kennedy said, "All wars start from stupidity. [It is] particularly stupid to risk killing a million Americans because the Germans want Germany to be reunified" ...

Kennedy's resistance to [military] pressure reached a climax during the Cuban Missile Crisis, (Oct 1962). The blockade (or quarantine) of Cuba that he imposed, to force the removal of nuclear weapons, did not satisfy the Joint Chiefs.

LeMay's words angered Kennedy, As Kenneth O'Donnell recalled in his memoirs, after the meeting Kennedy said "These brass hats have one great advantage in their favor. If we listen to them, and do what they want us to do, NONE OF US WILL BE ALIVE later to tell them that they were wrong."

Kennedy later told Ben Bradlee, (bureau chief for Newsweek), "The FIRST ADVICE I'M GOING TO GIVE MY SUCCESSOR is to watch the generals, and to avoid feeling that just because they were military men, their opinions on military matters were worth a damn."

As for Vietnam, what Kennedy would have done after November of 1963 now seems increasingly clear, thanks not only to the testimony of his former aides, but also to a growing documentary public record. Here, too, his wariness of his military advisors had begun to shape his outlook.

From the summer of 1962 to the fall of 1963, Kennedy directed Robt McNamara to chart plans for "systematic withdrawal" from Vietnam by 1965.

McNamara drew up a 5-year schedule for the reduction of U.S. forces. when he expected to remove the last 1,500 advisers. He also reduced military aid to $40.8 million -- less than 1/4 of the sum spent in 1962.

On Nov 20, the day before he left on his fateful trip to Dallas, Kennedy told Michael Forrestal, (NSC) that in 1964 he wanted "an in-depth study of every possible option we've got in Vietnam, including how to get out of there. We have to review this whole thing from the bottom to the top."

NEVER trust the Military or Pentagon when it comes to foreign policy or making War. And do not be overly confident about CIA and other Intelligence agencies ability to do their job.

I don't have any recent stats, but it's my understanding that a majority, if not a large amount, of politicians AND public teachers send their kids to private school. Ha, ha -- especially in Washington D.C. Good 'enuf' for you, but not for the leaders who purport to be the 'party of the people'.

ONE: Why do Congressmen & high public officials send their children to "private" schools?

If you are a very high profile Congressman, who makes a rather large salary, (and most are millionaires), and you make very important decisions every day, relative to world peace, economic prosperity & the happiness & safety of some 275 million citizens of the United States, ---- then it should come into your consciousness, that some foreign rabble, terrorists, or just plain old kidnapping criminals would love to "grab" your kids out of a public school, & hold them for ransom. For THAT reason alone, it is best & wise for any public official to send them to a private school.

TO SCROLLMOUSE: who wonders if I have taken any kind of medication? No dear, I have 7 years of college, a degree in psychology, & a year of medical school. I do not smoke, drink alcohol of any kind & never have taken any "drugs" except aspirin & Tums. Sorry to disappoint you. However, I am trained to recognize signs of mental illness when I see them, & to test for them, using a variety of standardized tests. Did you know, for instance, that drug addiction is a mental illness? So is alcoholism. It is listed as such in Merck's Manual (Dr. reference).

Since many right wingers do not recognize satire, metaphor, and literal idioms, like analogy, they perceive it to be irrational. A mind is a terrible thing to waste, but most of them are so deceived by spin doctors & dumb propagandists, that they are irrevocably lost. There is nothing I can do to reverse that. It is going to destroy this country, since fully 50% of our citizens are brain-washed to believe total nonsense, but I can't undo the harm that has been done over 40 years by the right wing traitors in our midst. (I call them Birchers).

I know most of you on this Forum are too young to realize that the LAST Police State was not very long ago. People were being put into Auschwitz ovens by Gestapo when I was born. They did not quit doing it until I was 3 years old. I REMEMBER THOSE TIMES. I have met Holocaust survivors. If you ask them how did it all start back then? It started just like it is going RIGHT NOW IN AMERICA. We don't have to go back to the Jurassic era, to see examples of how mankind can go into REVERSE, to become a dictatorship, a Police State, when it had been once a free society. BUT THE USA came to the rescue of Germany, Italy, France, & other nations who were invaded by Hit-ler's SS troops. IF WE FALL, WHO will come to OUR rescue? THINK ABOUT IT. I realize that you have to think "outside the box", but any true Intellectual can do that. WE NEED to do that, all of us, to avoid re-living the past. An old friend came by the other day for a visit. He rang my bell, & I asked him to sit down & have a cup of coffee. I asked him what he takes in his coffee? (as if I didn't know). He said, "This is the land of milk & honey", with a grin. And I put the milk & honey on the table for him.

I asked him what brings him over to my house on this rainy day? He looked a bit sad, & his words pierced my heart when he said, "Well, child, I came to say goodbye."

The old man looked frail, & his clothes appeared to be almost thread-bare, I had forgotten how OLD he was. I then wondered where he was going? Why would he say goodbye?

His long white hair, & long white beard, on his skinny frame, with his blue frock coat, was so familiar & so very comforting to me. I could not bear to think of his going away, & I gently patted his shoulder.

His pants had faded red & white stripes, & he held a raggedy top hat, which he always carried. My Uncle had been around at every stage of my life, he was at my school, at every parade, & even at all the baseball games. He was at every proud occasion, & well recognized by the whole town.

His head was drooping, when he said, "I have to leave you, child, -- they are forcing me to leave. Nobody wants this old man anymore." I was dismayed by that answer. I said, "but WE all love you, Uncle Sam." He said that the people no longer want to pay for his services, because they hated to pay their taxes. THEY DON"T WANT TO PAY MY SALARY anymore, Sam mumbled in obvious grief. I cannot stay alive without that, -- (then he turned his head away, so I could not see the tears).

But Sam, I said, YOU are EVERYTHING to US, you gave us all our Freedom, our Liberty, our Bill of Rights, & all the opportunity to live in this great nation. YOU ARE the FLAG.

He looked up at me with those sad blue eyes, & said, "Child, you DO remember that?" Well, YOU are the ONLY ONE who seems to remember that. Nobody else does.

Then he said, "They want to put me away someplace, so they do not have to be reminded of all we have gone thru together. They want to REPLACE me, with a giant inflated dummy that looks like GI Joe, who will be their new symbol.

This guy will be goose-stepping over the nation, with a big wide grin on his face, young, arrogant, Hawkish, & trying to say our Constitution is an outdated document. They want to take away our Rights, & replace it with the Patriot Act.

I am sorry child, but I must go away, until mankind has regained their sanity. BUT I MUST WARN YOU --- Remember this: I won't be here to protect you, anymore. I just realized that you were unable to grasp the truth of my fears, & fears of many others, due to a big GAP in your knowledge of American history between 1958 and now. Since I have not discussed that for many months now, maybe we need to discuss it now.

In the year 1958, a small group was formed by one Robert Welch. He was a candy manufacturer in Michigan & got together 12 other Republican millionaires for the purpose of political power.

They formed the John Birch Society, with the goal of taking over the Republican Party to use it as a vehicle to gain power. Robt Welch had studied all the works of Lenin, Stalin & Hitler, & he created the Birch Society (JBS) to be a hybrid combination of all of them. Their stated purpose was to fight communism, which was a big preoccupation in those years, as we feared the Soviet Union & a nuclear attack from them.

The society immediately began recruiting people as members, with the goal of having one million of them the first couple of years. The JBS soon had their own Publishing House, (propaganda factory) which was called Western Islands, & Hdqtrs in Belmont Mass. (Phone number was "1984"). Many executives with advertising s were hired to go out & seek new members. ONE IMPORTANT DETAIL: Members had to agree to "give up" all their rights as American citizens, to never argue or dissent with the leader, Robt Welch, but to accept all his words as Gospel truth, & obey any orders given to them by the JBS. They were told which books they could read, how to vote, what people they could associate with, & who to believe. (Brain-washing). People actually gave up their right to Think for Themselves, which is a hallmark of Democracy. Thus, they became willing puppets being manipulated by Welch & his grinning band of collaborators. Now Welch could "use" these mindless robots for his own purposes. He told them which books to ban, which organizations to support, & what to think. How to vote. What to believe in every aspect of life. NOBODY WAS ALLOWED to DISAGREE or do any DISSENT. If they did, they would be accused of being a Communist sympathizer or worse. And they would be kicked out of the Society.

Using the modus operandi of the Communist Party, Welch's groups met in secret cells, where they made plans to take over & infiltrate many existing groups & organizations in American life. Their agenda was to sabotage those groups & make them tentacles of the whole Birch apparatus. Early on, they targeted church groups. The men in the pulpit, (speaking for God) had to be controlled to echo the Birch line to all of its congregation. Members were assigned certain churches that they were to infiltrate & take over, by being the most active & vocal members of the congregation & sometimes the biggest contributors. Ministers have to pander to those kind of people, to balance $$ their books, & so they tried to "please" the new members who donated so well. Soon, the Birchers were nearly dictating which sermons would be allowed, & if they DID NOT like something, they would make the minister know it real quick. After nearly 40 years of this, it is hard to find any pulpit in America that has not been affected, (or controlled) by this manipulation.

The Birchers had to gain control of the GOP real quick to get THEIR candidates on the ballot. By 1964 the Birchers had their first candidate running for President (Barry Goldwater, who was Executive Council of the JBS). But he did not win, even after JFK was killed. However, EVERY Republican candidate since 1964 has been a BIRCH candidate, & this includes the third party candidates. (The only exception is maybe the Green Party). This year the Nader Party is in the pocket of Rupert Murdock, so it is Birch controlled.

The JBS soon had propaganda guys active in the US military, to spread the Birch line to officers and soldiers alike. If you are going to take over the govt, you NEED the military to help you do it.

Also, JBS early targeted Law Enforcement as one of their take-over groups. They often use many front groups, to ingratiate themselves. In this case, they began SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL POLICE, as a front group.

Recruiters were all over the place in the early years. I met many of them in Los Angeles, where they would walk up to you, & show you their suitcases full of literature, & then spend hours trying to get you to join them. I was actively recruited at least 2 or 3 times, & had a great opportunity to read their pamphlets & study their agenda. But I would not join their group, since I saw through the phoney message they put out. I could see the REAL intent behind the mask of patriotism. REAL PATRIOTs do not tell their fellow citizens to NOT THINK FOR THEMSELVES, & turn them into mindless robots to do their infiltration agenda for them. I could see that this would only undermine the legitimate government in a democracy.

One of the first LIES I heard Robt Welch tell, was saying that "This is not a Democracy, and that democracy was the worst form of govt". Since I was always an A student, so I actually LEARNED something in my high school Govt classes, I knew he was full of bull-shit. That was my first clue that he was actually a subversive operative. It was not hard after that, to find hundreds of other lies that he was telling his members, who seemed mesmerized, & unable to recognize that they were being brainwashed.

Near 1970, a neighbor girl was sent by her parents to a Birch camp in the mountains. After she came back, I asked this cute dimpled 10 yr old girl, what did she do in camp? She replied that they had been discussing "Who they would TORTURE when they, (the JBS) took over". This was so appalling to me, that they would brain-wash some innocent little girl, that I began to REALLY study the JBS & all its ways.

Members told me about their activities, & what they did, & how they did it. Some let me see their more current literature, saying things like the Girl Scouts of America was a communist group. Welch had them so bamboozled they did not know up from down. They were told the most hideously preposterous crap, & believed it hook line & sinker. This amazed me more than anything. That ordinary citizens, not dummies or bums, would believe this horse manure, without using their rational logic at all. Absolutely absurd.

Well, the Birch candidates who succeeded in getting elected --- (1) Richard Nixon, who had to leave office one step ahead of impeachment. (2) Ronald Reagan, who used drugs & arms to Iran to hold the hostages from being released, so that Carter would not get elected. (3) Bush SR, & Bush JR, who both follow the old Birch line---- NO TAXATION, since Welch knew how to get Voters, is to appeal to their massive GREED. Nobody wants to pay taxes, although they are NECESSARY to PAY for any Govt to survive. But by promising no taxes, he could bamboozle most of the right wingers, (whose primary motivation is Greed) to vote for Birch candidates. Thus, many who were decent Americans, gladly sold their country down the river, to save a few lousy bucks in taxes.

Recall that Welch had studied extensively Hitler & Stalin & Lenin. He had studied the propaganda arm of Goebbels, & by 1985, they had Rush Limbaugh on the airwaves, every single day, delivering the Birch line to bash the Democrats & praise the Republicans, in one long continuous campaign speech, for the last 18 years. Very similar to the Big Brother rhetoric used in the book "1984", it was designed to keep people under control, to manipulate their thinking, & to keep them loyal to Big Brother. They also had the Thought Police who would see that you would be punished for daring to think for yourself or disagree

Recall that during the beginning of the latest Gulf War, (March 2003), any protestors were called names like Traitor, unAmerican, - & Bush had police bashing protestors with clubs for trying to express their disagreement with this IRAQ WAR. Which current events show that the Protestors were RIGHT, and now the majority of Americans say this war was not right, & not worth fighting. But many were jailed & beat up for expressing their Right to Free Speech to dissent against any policy of our govt.

Gradually, the power increased, as the Birch Society, (having taken over the GOP, covertly) used all its methods to get majority of Congress, control in the Supreme Court, & get 4 Presidents elected. NOW they were in the position they had set out to accomplish in 1958. They had the power over the USA, & manipulative ability over 50% of the population thru propaganda. Soon, they would take off the mask of being ordinary American citizens, & show us who they really are. Their TRUE AGENDA, which is nothing less than to turn America into a Fascist dictatorship with themselves being the Feuhrers. Of course, they would soon abolish elections. They do NOT want to hear any of the "will of the people" being expressed since they only want THEIR WILL to be done. The rest of us only exist to be pawns & workers to raise their Profits. They now have the police & military under control to suppress any dissent or rebellion of the American citizens. The media is controlled by the right wing, & if you do not see that, then 1/2 your brain is not functional. All the machinery is in the position NOW. So the first step -- is to get rid of those pesky elections. The Feuhrer will never allow himself to be VOTED OUT of office. (It has begun).

In Germany, WW2, Hitler did several acts of violence & terrorism himself, to make the people afraid, so they would be willing to accept him as their savior, fearless leader, & be willing to give up certain freedoms in exchange for his protection. NOW, we suddenly hear that a nameless terrorist threat exists, (nobody knows where, when, or how) but somehow they believe this horse manure, given by a source which is notoriously wrong all the time) as a pretext for postponing our elections. So NOW you can begin, if you try to use your innate logic, to see why many of us are worried about current events in the Bush Administration. It is getting too familiar.

http://www.jewishworldreview.com | Just a few weeks ago a 14-year-old boy wearing a yarmulka came out of the Ourq subway station in Paris and was attacked by two Muslims. While yelling at him "dirty Jew," they knocked him down, beat him on the head and broke his nose. The boy begged for help from the French passers-by — fellow citizens — but they simply walked away, did nothing.

At the University Medical School of Saint-Antoine in Paris, four young Muslim men entered a lecture hall yelling "Death to the Jews." They confronted a Jewish student and beat him to a pulp and, like vultures, picked his valuables and robbed him. The lecturing professor said nothing while watching the attack and the entire class of French students remained silent while the thugs simply departed without a care. This, too, happened within the last few months.

The purpose of relating these stories is not to expose French anti-Semitism and the predatory mindset of French Muslims against Jews. It is to show how the French have become indifferent in their own society to brutality and unwilling to stop it. No wonder, then, the French will neither support nor sacrifice to fight Islamic terrorism in Iraq and Afghanistan when in even their own county, with incidents only feet away, they lack the moral courage to stop brutality. Yet many Americans exhort us first to obtain permission from the French if a War against Terrorism is to be deemed legitimate.

The idolization by some Americans of the mores of Europeans is nothing new. For decades they have berated the American people for "not following the European example." John Kerry is one of America's loudest proponents of conditioning America's security on French and German approval. In fact, when asked by reporters to describe his wife, the former Mrs. Heinz of Pennsylvania, he gushed forth the best compliment his worldview could offer: "She's so European!"

I do not know Bordertex, so it would not be very appropriate to make any judgments. From what I can see, she/or he is very articulate, courageous, and seems to express some ideas similar to mine. I welcome anybody who is on the Democrat/liberal side, since we are in short supply. Mostly because, as ET has told us, the right wingers scare them all away.

For those who are operating under the delusion that Bordertex and I are the same person, YOU ARE DEAD WRONG. Please try to get a grip.

Again, I repeat, that fully 50% of Americans are Democrats. Therefore, there are at least 135 million of us. So why do you think there is only ONE? That is plain illogical, ----- and untrue.

PS: We are supposed to express IDEAS on this Forum, not sit here trying to figure out who is what and pick apart individual posters. This is not a place to JUDGE other posters, as much as to express and consider IDEAS. Is that too hard for you? I note you have not said anything directly about the subject I have written about (extensively) above.

I would be very interested to know what right wingers would say, (if being civil & not merely being antagonistic) about my articles, which are intended to teach you what REALLY has been going on in your party for the last 43 years. Did you know that Bush can ALREADY (without amendment to Constitution) declare martial law & suspend elections? Yes, under the Emergency War Powers of the President. I have a list of them. I fully expect him to use those powers in the next couple of months. Many Birchers think it will be all fun & games when this occurs. That THEY will be the Rulers, so they will be safe from all the Fascist crap that goes on. BUT History has shown that once the dictator comes out of the closet & takes full control, (shutting down Congress with a fake anthrax attack for example), that he goes right on to smash everybody, including the dumb little pawns he used to gain power. Hitler had a firing squad go after his little militia guys. So much for loyalty.

Robt Welch, orig leader of JBS, called those who were used to help him gain power, "Unwitting dupes". Meaning they were not aware of what they were doing, but were following orders, like mindless robots. It is all TRUE HISTORY, so I wonder what you guys think about it. YOU MUST BE AWARE, of this? However, in the mid 70's, Welch issued a directive to all members that they must disavow their membership in the JBS, & deny its existence. Then they must register themself as Independents. So MAYBE the youngest people in the GOP are NOT aware of how all this stuff happened. It is possible for 2 generations to have been heavily brain-washed to believe the Birch line, but then to have had parents who denied the Way they acquired it.

Who am I supporting in this election? That's not an easy answer. I don't think the left and the Kerry-Edwards team are strong enough to take on the jihadists. Many on the left do not even comprehend what the underlying factors in this war against the jihadists is occurring.

Many lefties still blow me away when they tell me it's all Israel's fault! I try to tell them that if Israel did not exist the underlying problems in the Muslim world will continue to increase. As long as the Muslim world cannot control its population, and cannot feed or educate all of its people, and as long as rich Muslims have multiple wives leaving none for uneducated, virile, young males with no chance of upward mobility, it leaves these young males with nowhere to go but join the jihadists.

Of course, not having a energy policy in this country that addresses the very serious oil problem makes the whole situation even more volitile.

But when I think of the corruption, lies, abuse, bungling of the war, etc., I can't continue on that path either.

I would like to see a change of administration for the next four years, even if they are weak, just to clean out the existing players and disconnect them from some questionable associations, especially with the Saudis. Changing administrations may quieten the Muslim rage a little.

I have been told by some leftie folks rather high in political circles, that Kerry-Edwards will not win. In the last months before the election Osama Bin Laden will be "captured" -- They say he was captured some time ago but is kept imprisoned until the appropriate time.

I have also been told that lots of security s will be issued to frighten us into voting for Bush again.

I was just looking again at the OMB numbers on the on-budget outlays and deficits. I decided to divide the deficits by the on-budget outlays to determine what percent of the outlays were paid for by the deficit under different presidents since the era of huge deficit spending ushered in by the actor. The data are below:

Reagan = On the average, about 25% of federal on-budget outlays were funded through on-budget deficit spending over 8 fiscal years

Bush's father = On the average, about 28% of federal on-budget outlays were funded through on-budget deficit spending over 4 fiscal years

Clinton = On the average, about 6% of federal on-budget outlays were funded through on-budget deficit spending over 8 fiscal years

Dubya = On the average, about 27% of federal on-budget outlays were funded through on-budget deficit spending over 2 fiscal years

There is only one conclusion: Clinton was a miracle. Republican presidents are irresponsible.
