Message: The Republicans sustained heavy losses because they did not focus on the issues. They were obsessed with Monica Lewinsky. Worse, as somebody said: "They fell in love with Monica." That's all they could talk about. They didn't care about our issues; they didn't care about us. All they wanted was to bash Clinton, every day, all day. Even when we begged them to stop; even when we told them how sick we were of the whole thing they just kept right on shoving Monica, Monica, Monica in our faces. I hope, by now, they have learned that it's the issues stupid.

Message: I am a Republican who voted against my own party, as many Americans obviously did. The message we are sending to the Republican party is to focus on the issues the people want and not your get-the-president-at-all-costs vendetta. Your "at all costs" campaign has blown up in your face, and has become extremely costly from every direction and for all of us used-to-be-proud Republicans. You are coming across as a party that has lost its direction and has only a singular focus, ignoring everything else that is happening in the world and in our country.

The message is clear: get rid of your leaders and more importantly, get rid of the Christian Coalition. They have taken you so far from center that you may not get rid of your extreme right wing image fast enough for the 2000 elections. People can't tell the difference between Conservatives and the Religious Right anymore. You are too extreme. You will lose both the Senate and the House in 2000 if you don't do something about it fast. Take a strong stand and kick them out. Good Luck

Message: Democrats defied expectations yesterday by holding their ground in the Senate and picking up seats in the House. This is the first time since 1934 that the party in control of the White House has gained seats during mid-term elections. Americans have made it very clear that they want the impeachment matter ended quickly and decisively. Will the Republicans get the message? My personal opinion is that the Republican Party is so heavily owned by the religious right that it's hopeless. You cannot dialogue with the radical right.

GOP's setback unmatched in modern times

California Liberals Hand Republicans their Heads

GOP takes a big pie in the face

Democrats sweep EVERY OPEN STATEWIDE CONTEST

Dismissed by her opponent and some analysts as too liberal, Senator Barbara Boxer, who only one month ago was 4 points behind Matt Fong enjoys her re-election victory, and runaway win by a comfortable 10 point margin.

Democrat Gray Davis won the country's most important election winning by a huge margin of 20 points.

Straight Democratic Vote: Californians voted straight Democratic sweeping every open statewide contest.

The Republicans have no program and no ideas beyond saving the lives of those not born yet -- the heck with the lives of you, me and every else.

Obsession with Monica:The Republican obsession with Monica not only backfired in their faces, but leaves the GOP with a mean-spirited extremist right-wing image of self-righteous hypocrisy. The Republicans are in serious trouble.

Oh to be the fly on the wall as Newt Gingrich, Trent Lott, Dick Armey and other right-wingers watched the elections results roll in.

Message: Republicans suffered their stunning setback in mid-term congressional elections because voters shrugged off the Monica Lewinsky scandal and blamed the GOP for mishandling its impeachment probe of President Clinton, exit polls show.

In results that startled both parties, voters Tuesday flatly refused to punish congressional Democrats for Clinton's transgressions.

Instead they administered a rebuttal of historic proportions to the Republicans, denying them new seats in the U.S. Senate and stripping them of five seats in the House.

After a campaign in which Republicans outspent Democrats by more than $100 million, the Republicans will still control Congress: with a 55-45 margin in the Senate, and an estimated 223-211 in the House.

Before the election, House Speaker Newt Gingrich, R-GA., had boasted the GOP would pick up as many as 40 House seats as a result of the scandal - enough to give Republicans nearly a 2-to-1 voting edge.

In the Senate, Republicans had dreamed of gaining five seats, enough to give them the 60 votes needed to end any Democratic filibuster aimed at blocking favored legislation.

The GOP setback was unmatched in modern times, said Robert Hogan, director of the University of Southern California's Citizens Research Foundation.

Tuesday marked the only time since the Depression than in incumbent president's party actually picked up strength in a midterm election, he said. On average, the opposition party has gained 27 seats in the House and two in the Senate.

The out come is "very historic, especially in light of what was going on six weeks ago," Hogan said.

Two thirds of voters disapproved of the way Congress is handling the Lewinsky matter.

Message: I would just like to say, that Mrs. Clinton has shown great integrity throughout this entire ordeal. Yes, President Clinton was wrong, and yes he should not have lied, but these were indeed extreme circumstances. I also realize that he is the President, but he is not exactly the first president to commit adultery, he is merely the first to have it broadcasted worldwide. Could anyone be expected to admit to such an act to his own wife and daughter, let alone the world via television? He is also not soley at fault, he did not engage in such affairs alone. It takes two... Clinton is a wonderful president and his personal life she be just that, personal.

Message: Californians, you make us so proud. You rose to the occasion in record numbers; went to your polling booths and promptly handed the Republicans their heads.

Through the purest most honorable system of all, democracy, you delivered a strong message. The ball is now in the Republican court. Will they be fair, honorable, mean-spirited, moral, or will they just choose to throw more stones and accumulate more sins? It's entirely up to you, Republicans. We Demos have done our part and passed the test with honors while you face the biggest challenge of your Republican lives.

Have you seen the light, yet? Do you get the message? Or do we Liberals have to spell-it-out one more time?

Californians, in a year when "low voter turnout" was predicted, you defied the projections and surprised us all. You went right out and voted "straight Democratic" and won every single statewide contest! You scored 100% Wow! It may be 100 years before this record is broken.

It is the Democrats, not the Republicans, who lead our country into next century. You've made politics fun again.

We are so happy to find ourselves living in this wonderful state, and are wondering how we got to be so lucky, and what we did right? We earnestly pray that Californians will strive to walk in the light and learn past mistakes.

OUTRAGED?

People were fed up! Outrage and disgust drove the Election of 1998. Voters sent a message to leaders: delivered loud and clear!

Whatever.

Along comes the study by the Committee for the Study of the American Electorate. The findings: Fewer eligible Americans -- 36 percent -- voted on Tuesday than in any election since 1942.

Turnout was down substantially in New York and California, says the report.

In all, an estimated 72.5 million Americans voted on Tuesday, down more than 2.5 million from 1994. And the largest number of eligible Americans in history opted not to vote, estimated at 119.45 million.

NEW YORK TIMES political whiz Richard Berke notes on Friday that the highest turnout of any state -- 59.5 percent of eligible voters -- was recorded in Minnesota, where Jesse Ventura pinned them to the mat.

Poor deluded souls, they are trying to tell us that there was a low voter turnout in New York and California - ha, ha, ha. If there was a low turnout the Republicans should have won, but they didn't. In California the Republicans lost every single contested race from dogcatcher on up. What are we to conclude from that? Maybe only the Democrats came out to vote in California and Republicans, out of disgust for their own party, stayed at home?

Real Republicans are disgusted with their politically correct leaders. We should have plastered the airwaves with that disgusting punk, Bill "Cigar Boy" Clinton, wagging that finger and lying to our faces. We should have had the backbone to call the Democrats what they are: immoral, lying, dirty little socialists. Had our leadership had the guts to call a spade a spade and give the American People a clear choice, the Party of Law and Morality, we'd have kicked ass. As it stands, we got what we deserved. Time to kick our leaders out and look for men who can truly lead us out of this dark time...

You are right - the Christian Coalition did not get their message across. Night and day they should play that video on TV and in all the papers. Send the entire Religious Right out to march. March up mainstreet in every city. Carry a banner reading: "We are the Party of Law and Morality." March, march, march all day everywhere.

Redouble your efforts to make sure EVERY American knows what an evil person he is. You pounded into every American head for ten months day in and day out but that is not enough because they obviously did not get the message. You need to do it for another ten months, at least. There are no other issues as important as getting Bill. Forget every other issue and focus entirely on Monica and Bill. You are guaranteed to get a very interesting reaction from the country.

Send your suggestion to Gingrich immediately. He really needs to know what he did wrong.

The only breaking news is that you have no idea what "deposed" means. Newt quit. He quit because he knew that doing so would help his party and his country. He showed honor Bill Clinton will never even understand (much less achieve). Newt just proved that he is not the evil, power hungry partisan the Press and the Left claim he is. Newt saw that the Liberals used him effectively as a whipping boy and decided to do what was best for the Republican Party, the only Party that can ever help this country climb out of the moral sewer it is in. The real question is; will the Republicans do what they normally do when an opportunity presents itself and form a circular firing squad? If they do, this country may well be doomed to decades more decadence and the former Soviets may be proven correct in their claim that they would destroy us from within. I can only hope that they see the only choice is to resort to the racist politics of the Left and elect J. C. Watts as Speaker. The Left would have a very hard time persecuting a black man without appearing to be the racists that they are (they never miss an opportunity to divide the races for their political benefit, perhaps it's time we did the same?) email: Gingrich is the Casualty of War

Message: The message from the voters was not aimed at Gingrich per se, it was aimed at the Religious Right which S-C-A-R-E-D them. Gingrich is a casualty of war. He is the leader and must resign because he totally lost touch with the people. He predicted 40 forty new seats in the House the day before the elections and ended up losing five! That's the definition of somebody who has lost touch.

The Republican Party, however, will not recover unless they oust the Religious Right that has a death grip on the Party. To survive the Republican Party must become the Party of Business again, and not the Party of Morality. Morality is subjective, each of us has our own sense of morality, and we don't want someone else shoving theirs down our throats - it's unconstitutional.

If the GOP has the courage to dump the Religious Right they will eventually return to the party we once respected. The Religious Right has often threatened to walk out of the GOP and start their own party. That's a great idea -- get rid of them. Of course, the Republican Party will be weakened for a while, but eventually many Democrats will move over and fill the void.

What threatens the GOP most at this time is that the people now SEE the threat from the Religious Right, which they were not aware of before. They were not paying attention. They thought the Religious Right was just a small extremist group, but we don't see it that way anymore. Had the elections been held three months ago the Religious Right would have had a death grip on us too, and that's what's scared the Democrats into their polling booths.

The Republicans should take back the Party of Business and focus on issues that move our country forward. Throw out the anti-abortion issue and other issues that will anger the Religious Right and force them to resign en masse.

Now, wait a minute, let me get this straight. All through the 70's and 80's the Republicans were the "Party of Business" and we got lambasted for caring more about money than people (even thought we understood that prosperity was good for everyone!). Now we take on moral issues (in a country rapidly decending into a moral sewer) and you want us to return to our old "money grubbing" ways?!?! Are you kidding?!?! The instant we do that you'll say "There, see! All they care about is Power and (The source of all evil!) Money! They're turning their backs on the poor again!" and go right back to the old set of lies that worked for so many years. Please, we're not great politicians (because we have principles) but we're not stupid! Our only failing was playing fair. Time to get really dirty! Play the Race Card! Play the Feminist Card! Use all the dirty tactics of the Left against them! Lie incessantly! Message: The American people voted against the Republicans because they repudiated the Social Agenda of the Republican Party.

Republicans must create a social agenda that the people want. The majority of people in this country do not want to force 13-year old girls to have babies. The majority of people in this country believe the government does NOT have ownership of a woman's womb. The people do not want school prayer. The people want Republicans to care about the environment. They want the Republicans to respect their privacy. The majority of the people in this country want gun control. And on and on.... But the Republican Party does not listen.

Yes, we will agree with Stoner that the the Republican Party should not only be the Party of Business, but they should be the Party of the People and must address the needs of Americans and not the demands of extremists on the Right Wing. The Republicans cannot continue to be the Party of Extremists. If the Republican Party does not heal itself and get in touch with what the people want they will lose control of Congress in 2000. This much is guaranteed.

With the Gingrich resignation the Republicans have an opportunity to do some radical housekeeping. Get rid of the extremists and become moderate again. Pull together a social agenda that CARES about the people and our environment. An agenda that is FOR something wholesome, not AGAINST gun control, AGAINST abortion, AGAINST our president, AGAINST the environment, AGAINST freedom of religion, AGAINST... AGAINST.. AGAINST.

Republicans must bring honor and dignity back to their party, and not behave like self-righteous, religious, fanatics pointing fingers at the immorality in everybody else except themselves. Behaving more like religious zealots than politicians they attempt to instill fear and paranoia in the people.

Message: Thus ends one of the most flamboyant Washington runs ever. He gained power as an insurgent and lost it in an insurrection. His career flourished in an oppressed congressional minority and was extinguished in an equally oppressive congressional majority.

Newt Gingrich was a rebel consumed by a rebellion within his own forces, a strategist with an instinct for gaining power but none for retaining it, a visionary with a blind spot.

He is the speaker who won power for the Republicans after 40 years in the wilderness and then was thrust into exile after only four years in power.

By force of will, by countless acts of persuasion, with a canny and sometimes cruel guile, Gingrich won that majority four Novembers ago. But the man who dared to ask why the Republicans could not hold the majority never dared to answer what the Republicans would do with that majority once they won it.

That, more than his personal eccentricities, more than his ethical lapses, more than his sense of vengeance, more than his disastrous decision to transform this week's midterm congressional elections into a referendum on a tainted president, accounted for his downfall.

His majority was elected on the strength of a radical document, his famous Contract with America, buy beyond the promises in that tract he was able to win no consensus for a GOP agenda for the century's end. Moreover, he offered no legislative road map himself.

So when the bottom fell out this week -- once Republicans realized that a leader who boasted of his sense of history had made a historic miscalculation-- Gingrich had nothing to fall back on: no record of achievement, no compelling agenda for the 106th Congress, no sense that the man who had found the route to the Speaker's Rooms had any rationale for remaining there.

How can anyone say that he shouldn't be impeached? A female pilot in the USAF was kicked out of the service because she had sex with an enlisted man's husband. If there was any CEO guilty of the same thing that Clinton is guilty of they would have been fired MONTHS ago. Get real Democrats, be decent just one time!

Back from the dead (literally, one of my kids gave me a nasty virus (organic, not computer) and I have been dead to the world for the last week)

First, the “unknown poster” is not the Last Visible Dog. Second, only in the Orwellian Clinton years, where history is re-written daily and the mind-numbed masses are blindly following the Clinton/Carville propaganda machine, would last weeks election be considered a defeat for the Republicans. The Republicans won EVERY national contest. More Americans voted for Republicans over Democrats. 98% of incumbents were returned. Republicans remain the majority party. Republicans defied history by holding the House for three election cycles – the first time in 70 years! Just because Republicans wanted to win by 40 – winning by 6 is still a WIN. What I find amazing about the mind-numbed Democrats is their complete lack of memory – four years ago the Democrats LOST 52 house seats and they think they are the winners because they gained back 5 seats (oh boy, only 47 more to go before you break even!). Let’s not even mention the Governors – the Democrats are so far behind it may be more than ten years before they are even competitive.

As for Newt – the Democrat sponsored multi million dollar campaign worked (is that something to be proud of?) While Newt is a great political mind – most of the mind-numbed masses can’t see beyond the multi million dollar hateful attack campaign waged by the Democrats (Remember, Democrats threw 70 ethics charges against Newt and all but one were thrown out as baseless – and you think they are after Clinton...amazing!). So be it. Newt understood the situation and did the honorable thing – something that would be inconceivable on the Democrat side. What is the Anti-Newt party (the Democrats) going to do now – they have no message? Who will James Carville and the well-funded White House hate machine turn their attention to?

”Join the Democrat part where day is night, history is re-written daily, and there is now absolute rule of law (all the matter is: did you get away with it?

You are interesting to study LVD, because you are a lot like Gingrich who was so out of touch that he believed black was white and a stunning loss was a record-breaking win.

I think you may be typical of a lot of people on the right-wing and those in Congress. You are in denial. Gingrich did not resign and leave Congress because of the Republicans stunning success in the November 3rd elections. Gingrich resigned because he lost touch with reality. He totally miscalculated the will of the people. You are doing the same thing.

Instead of denying reality, we suggest that you have the courage to face reality and decide what to keep and what to throw out of your social agenda if you are going to survive in 2000. Many pundits are seeing that the Republicans will not be able turn this disaster into a win because a lot of them think just like you.

I mean this with all sincerity because we want a strong two-party system, but we can also see that if you continue to deny the message behind the November 3rd results you will get another serious blow in 2000. I will even go further and predict that more members in the Reform Party are going to take away your seats in 2000. So stop insulting us and start working with us. Gingrich was the divisive force that destroyed your party. Don't continue along that track.

Newt did not resign because of a great loss – (BTW: Republicans won in every national category). Newt resigned because it was a small win and Republicans what a big win is 2000 (BTW: GW Bush leads Gore by over 20% in the polls). Based on the big loss by Democrats in 1994 (52 seat – Mamma Mia ! ) and the fact Gore is showing so poorly in the polls and the Democrats just lost their favorite whipping boy (Newt) – it is the Democrats that need to do some soul-searching before 2000 (it seems the best the Democrats can hope for is losing the White House and gaining the House). Face reality – the Democrats FAILED to gain control of any national category. Every seat in the House was up and the American people spoke – they said “We want the Republicans to control it all”. Sorry, the left may be good at spin – but spin all you want – in January, after the swearing in, the Democrats will remain the loser/minority party.

What I'm saying is that only the twisted logic of the Liberal Mind could call gambling the result of a "disability". The guy is a scumbag thief (I can only assume he turned to theft to pay his gambling debts). He was too stupid and/or weak to run his own life. He not only belongs in jail, he ought to have his pension taken away (or at least forfeited to his wife and kids, assuming he ever had any). This is just one more example of people not being held responsible for their choices. There are too many alcoholics out there who just quit (Yes, they can be "taught" by friends and professionals to stop self destructing if they want to learn but that's not being "cured", it's being educated!). This idiotic definition means that any behavior can be dismissed and excused as a "disability". Impeachment Inquiry May Be Expanded

WASHINGTON (AP) -- House Judiciary Committee Republicans, sending a message that they're not shaken by election losses, are intensifying attacks on Democrats who believe lying about sex is not an impeachable offense.

This possibility arose after the Supreme Court on Monday refused to shield Lindsey from questioning by prosecutors on what conversations he had with Clinton regarding Monica Lewinsky.

Are you aware that electoral history was made last week? Probably not, since the mainstream media treated it as a non-event. For the first time in the history of any of these United States, a state (Oklahoma) has elected women to each of its five top statewide constitutional offices, ranging from Governor to State School Superintendent. Funny how the media are not making much of this story. Even odder that those organizations which list electing women to public office as part (or all) of their stated purpose for existence (NOW, Emily's List, etc.) aren't out crowing from the rooftops about this triumph for women. You don't think it has anything to do with the fact that all five of these women are Republicans, do you?

I suppose because one of the Ten Commandments says "Thou shalt not kill" we should repeal all the laws that prohibit murder?!?! Please guys, get a grip. Christians are not a bunch of evil hate mongers. They don't want to handcuff you to a pew and apply Nazi "re-education" techniques until you snap. The only real problem the Christians have with you is the abortion issue (which they view as the murder of an innocent person, for which there is at least as valid a philosophical argument as yours). They don't want to outlaw cursing, adultery, homosexual sex, sleeping late on Sundays or anything else. They don't want to make slavery legal again. They don't (contrary to what you might believe) want to impeach Clinton for adultery or lying. They want him out for perjury (a legal matter). They do despise him for promoting social legislation they believe is morally wrong but that is the right of every citizen of this great nation. We cannot outlaw opinions! Are you guys really ready to say that a politician cannot have religious beliefs? Are you ready to demand that they leave those beliefs at the door as they enter Congress? Isn't secularism just another religion? Frankly, the last thing I want is a bunch of politicians with no religious beliefs running this country. Talk about "Hell on Earth"...

Once again you have either missed or chosen to ignore the entire point of my post. Read it again, this time more slowly perhaps. I shall reiterate: "Until someone proposes a law that is based solely on a particular religious belief I just don't see how anything has been imposed on anyone!"

Certainly there must be people of many religious backgrounds in our Congress. I would encourage all of them to read bits of their sacred writings when they felt a need to. After all, religion is far older than government and often far wiser. The purpose of all scripture (IMHO) is to teach, to help young men and women profit from the wisdom of the ages, to guide them to a better, more moral, just and prosperous life. Of course there are morons and evil people that will twist any teachings to achieve their immoral goals in every religion. These people are the true enemy. (I may never fully understand how a grown man could look anyone in the face and declare that the Bible says that oral sex with someone other than your wife is not adultery. How incredibly sad.) But turning our backs on all religion and pretending it does not exist is not only impossible but foolish even to attempt. Again, whether you like it or not, this nation was founded on Christian principles by Christian people. Principle that are not so different from many other religions. Principles that people like Bill Clinton (and so many others) could have profited greatly from.

Question: Do you really believe we should eliminate all religion from government? And if so, what then defines right and wrong? Since you have not demonstrated the ability so far to address this subject honestly I do not expect you will do so now but I had to ask...

In my first philosophy course the professor was easily able to prove that murdering ones enemies was not only not a bad thing but actually the moral thing to do! By simply choosing the preface you desire (that which must be taken on faith as it can never be proved) you can achieve any outcome you desire. This is all Philosophy 101 stuff. If there is no God to grant life then there is no reason not to take life as one wishes. If there is a God then the gift of life is sacred, hence, murder is wrong and therefore should be illegal.

If you believe, as the Framers of the Constitution surely did, that all our rights come from our Creator how then can we abandon Him and not lose our rights, our nation and our liberty?

I love everyone, even Liberals. But when you love someone and you see that they are doing things destructive to themselves and to those around them you are obligated to try and set them straight. We now have a "man" in the White House who has lied, cheated and stolen all his life to get there. And sadly some are still proud of this man because he says things that sound good and wise. We have exchanged our desire for personal morality for the much less demanding "public morality". As long as you say the right things it matters not what you do in your "personal life". Well, I submit to you that, much like respect, without personal morals the public morals are meaningless, empty words.

Our names and those of our families would be smeared in the Weekly Standard. Little Kenny Starr would have our phone lines tapped, our friends questioned, our credit cards subpoenaed; everything we ever bought listed. We don't want Kenny peeping through our keyholes.

We used this argument many times and the right wing always respond that if we did not have anything to hide we would not mind Kenny doing these things to us. We lead a very clean and moral life and are held in high esteem in our community, but we would like to remain private citizens. We don't want everything we do made public. You see we went through that years ago and it gets ugly. There's always somebody out there that wants to get you and will twist everything you do into sh*t. We like to walk in the street alone without fear that we will be accosted or watched. We like to sit in the coffee shops and chat with folks; blend into the crowd just like everybody else. "Love is our guide and reason our passion."

Is this not good enough for you, Stoner, or do you believe that God is not love?

"But turning our backs on all religion and pretending it does not exist is not only impossible but foolish even to attempt."
Who said we have turned our backs on all religion? We are facinated by traditional religions and unique spiritual paths, but we don't want any particular one to attempt to suppress the others. We believe in freedom of religion and by the same token freedom from religion. We, like the Founding Fathers, believe that everyone should be free to worship, or not worship as they please.

Stoner, you have a love-hate relationship with Liberals. In one sentence you "love everyone, even Liberals," and next message you tell us how evil we are. OK we can handle it.

Our spiritual direction DOES come from our Creator. But how we define the origin of our creation and the purpose of our creation is what separates us, and herein lies the danger. If we could rise above our need to believe in our superiority over other religions and accept that while the origin of our creation is the same there is a reason why we travel on different spiritual paths, we could have peace. But it is in our nature to win over others.

"In my first philosophy course the professor was easily able to prove that murdering ones enemies was not only not a bad thing but actually the moral thing to do! By simply choosing the preface you desire (that which must be taken on faith as it can never be proved) you can achieve any outcome you desire. This is all Philosophy 101 stuff. "
Agreed. It is moral for the Eskimos to kill their firstborn if it is a girl because she cannot hunt enough food for the family to survive. It is also moral for the Eskimos to abandon their elderly in the snow to die because food is so scarce. So, yes, you can argue that murdering one's girl babies and elderly under certain circumstances can be moral, if failure to do so will result in the death of the whole tribe. The individual is always sacrificed for the sake of the whole.

But our objective is to reach a level of civilization where we do not have to take life in order to survive. We are not there yet, but we are further along than the Eskimos.

They don't think it's sacred when it relates to the death penalty, or to the number of guns people can freely buy to kill each other. They think it's OK for Trent Lott to rail against homosexuals as evil, thus inspiring their extremists to go out and kill them. It seems to me that right-wingers think all unborn life is sacred, but after the unborn are born and begin to define themselves, right-wingers become most intolerant of the sacred lives of these people who differ from them. What if science found a way to tell beforehand that one of the unborn was destined to be a homosexual. Would you still consider that life sacred?

Gee Wiz did you ever read me wrong on that one! I'm sorry I was not clear that the professor's example was meant to show that any outcome can be achieved if the preface is flawed enough. That was his whole point. It is never moral to kill anyone. It may be the only practical solution but it is never moral. Assuming that you believe in a Creator that gives us life you must logically regard that life as the most sacred of gifts. Killing anything is a slap in the face to God but killing a person is the ultimate insult! This is why even suicide is considered immoral by Christians. They believe, in a way, that your life is not yours to throw away. It is a sacred gift not to be carelessly wasted. I don't know if you guys are Christians or share these views but they are all quite logical conclusions given the premises of Christian Doctrine.

Perhaps I can clear up the Abortion/Capitol Punishment thing for you. An unborn child has a) not committed any offence and b) never had a chance to live, a great waste of potential. A convicted murderer on the other hand has a) committed the ultimate offence and b) had many years to live, and squandered that potential. There is simply no comparison. Perhaps female Eskimo babies must, by the harshest necessity, be sacrificed for the survival of the tribe (though there are those who might even disagree in this most extreme of cases). Perhaps it is necessary to end a murderers life when no one is safe while he lives (and there are those who would disagree here as well). But it is never moral and rarely necessary to kill an unborn child in a nation where so many would be happy to raise it as their own. This is where most of my Christian friends are coming from. I am not Christian but I share the vast bulk of my moral and ethical views with them.

And lastly, I hate to be so stubborn, but you have continued to ignore my earlier point :
"Until someone proposes a law that is based solely on a particular religious belief I just don't see how anything has been imposed on anyone!"
Will you please address this. I'm really curious how you could possibly respond to this (and I'm sure Libby Dole would be as well!).

QUESTIONS:
1. Is ALL life sacred or just that of the unborn?
If you would pay a bit more attention you would have the answer. Quote: "Assuming that you believe in a Creator that gives us life you must logically regard that life as the most sacred of gifts. Killing anything is a slap in the face to God but killing a person is the ultimate insult!" This very clearly states that all life is sacred (to those of us who believe it is a gift from the Creator).

2. If some lives are not sacred after they are born, then who makes that decision? What are the rules?
All life is sacred. On occasion, as you have pointed out, extreme conditions can call for death.

3. I assume your life is sacred, but would we pass your test?
All life is sacred. But if you take a life purposely and without reason (self defense, survival of the tribe, etc.) it is arguable that you "owe" society your own life.

On another point:
"When a government allows religion to be expressed in a public domain, the dominant religion will prevail and impose itself on us. Surely you know that. "

So then you're saying you only want to repeal the First Amendment for members of Congress? Shouldn't they have the same right to free speech at work as the rest of us?

I still contend that until a bill is drafted that attempts to establish a particular religion as the Official State Religion you got no case.

To review, your quote was : "Recently however we heard that she announced publicly that the Scriptures should be read in Congress."

If Libby Dole wanted to make it a law that the Scriptures be read in Congress then I'd be right there with you (but I feel confident that she would never promote that idea as it is so clearly unconstitutional), but if she (or anyone else for that matter) wanted to read them because they felt like it I'd be right there with them! In reading the post I never got the impression anyone wanted to legislate anything. Did I misunderstand? Did she indeed propose a law regarding this? Or are you persecuting her for speaking out about her Christian beliefs? Surely you'd never do that!

As I pointed out before : "Thou shalt not kill" is in the bible and we outlawed murder. ALL law is based on religious belief and/or philosophy. The Framers understood that. Close inspection of the Constitution and the Framers other writings shows plainly that they wanted to prevent the legalized persecution of religions by any Official State Church or laws that favored one religion over the others as had been the case in England (which was a big part of what caused the mass exodus from England). They had no intention of eliminating religious beliefs in Congress or anywhere else. Furthermore, They plainly understood how important having a high moral standard would be to the survival of this delicate republic. Maybe I'm just a bit more of a history buff than the average American but in the reading I've done these things are painfully clear.

I just think you guys are way to paranoid about this stuff. If you ever actually hear of a bill that would codify favoritism toward a particular religion or church then let me know. I'll be the first one in line to protest and have it struck down by the Supreme Court! But if your aim is to eliminate religious beliefs in the halls of Congress I can only hope that you fail miserably.

All...this is not a game, this is not a joke, THIS IS A REAL SUGGESTION.

Are you concerned about how the Y2K situation will affect you? How will you know how you'll be affected? How CAN you know? Will there be widespread power black-outs? Will phones work? How about the Air Traffic Control system? Other systems?

Well, there is a way to get a pretty good idea how you'll be affected. Everyone can know. You can pretty much know how Government will be impacted. You can know how Financial institutions will be impacted. Communications. Transportation. Food, water, fuel, social, others...

One small challenge. In order to find out, we need to pool our efforts. We all need to cooperate.

How do we find out? Fairly simple. Let's have a small dress rehersal. On Thursday, December 31, 1998, EVERYONE sets their computer (and other applicable) clocks to December 31, 1999. Military. Water treatment plants. TV. Banks. You. EVERYONE! All leave their systems "mis-set" for one week. Evaluate the results and see exactly what issues arise and need to be addressed.

We've got a month and a half to get ready for the test. Actually, come to think of it, accomplishing just the test will tell us a lot about ourselves.

Thurs December 31, 1998 change clocks to December 31, 1999. Friday January 8, change 'em back.

The result? Everyone will get an idea what Y2K will bring and have 1 year to address and prepare for what's found.

Could this test create problems? Of course! That's why you do the test. I don't know about you, but I'd rather do a small test under controllable circumstances and know what's ahead than be surprised Jan. 1, 2000 with no clue and no time left to work on the surprises!

Government, do you want to demonstrate that you're out to do what's best for people? Get behind this. It's one week. Just one week. You will have ABSOLUTELY and UNDENYABLY demonstrated that you're taking the reigns here. (If you don't like this idea, propose your own and run with it. Lead!)

Media, do you want to show that you're out to benefit the public? Here's a BIG chance.

Email this to everyone you know. EVERYONE. Make this small, but VERY IMPORTANT test happen.

Again, simply, here's the plan. On December 31, 1998, everyone turn all clocks (mainframe, pc, embeded systems, etc.) forward one year. A week later, change them back. Evaluate the results.

Downside - we generate problems for 1 week that wouldn't have happened otherwise. How big? WE DON'T KNOW!!!

Upside - we get pretty good insite into what Y2K will bring...1 year in advance. The 1 week of problems are temporary, but everyone will know what to expect and what to work on.

If you think this is a good idea and want to tell someone you want better idea what's comming down the road, besides emailing everyone you know, here are a few email addresses you might want to send to:

president@whitehouse.gov

first.lady@whitehouse.gov

vice.president@whitehouse.gov

We can wait around and let the experts tell us what they guess the Y2K future will bring...or we can bring the future to us and KNOW.

Got a question for you. If we can't handle a 1 week test, how are we going to handle Y2K itself?

A dress rehearsal of the Y2K problem would not work very well. For example, I am a software engineer and I write software for the finical community that uses interrelated date oriented data (stock pricing, dividends, transactions, etc). If everybody faked the year 2000 – that would work OK but giant problems would arise when we tried to switch back to the correct date. We would have a weeks worth of exponentially interrelated erroneous data that would be nearly impossible to reconcile. My company has been doing test runs (faking the year 2000) for over a year now (like most companies) and that works OK – but IMHO the nation-wide test run ain’t never gonna happen because it would cause more problems then it would solve.

I believe the nationwide test would create problems. Is it better to wait till Jan. 2000 and see what we're dealt? Do we already know that Y2K will bring us less problems than the 1 week test? Your company is testing its part, and that's great, but what about the impact of your vendors and suppliers? What about infrastructure? Is there any validity to what the doom-sayers tell us about power, water, transportation, communications? Is there any possibility that doing a 1 week test would be more insitefull and motivational than just waiting around to see what Jan 2000 brings?

Is there any widespread cross organizational test that you could see occuring?

I'd rather do something than wait to be done to.

Message: I JUST WANTED TO SAY, THAT AFTER WATCHING THE HEARINGS TODAY, I AM VERY MUCH CONVINCED THAT THIS MATTER IS A VERY EXSPENSIVE, POLITICALLY CONCOCTED WITCH HUNT. AFTER NOT BEING ABLE TO FIND ANY CONCRETE EVIDENCE OF CRIMINAL ACTIVITY, UP POPS LINDA TRIPP, ONE OF THE REPUBLICAN LACKEYS KNOWING, OR SUSPECTING THAT OUR PRESIDENT WOULD SUCCUMB TO THE ADVANCES OF A YOUNG, FRESH-FACED,INNOCENT APPEARING INTERN OF THE FEMININE PERSUATION, CAREFULLY MANIPULATED THIS SCENARIO, AND MADE SURE IT WAS ON TAPE. MR. CLINTON TRYING TO PRESERVE MARRIAGE AND HIS PRIDE,LIED. THIS IS NOT AS BAD AS THE NIXON FIASCO, WHICH CONGRESS DECIDED TO VOTE AGAINST IMPEACHMENT PROCEEDINGS. TO MAKE A LONG STORY LONGER, JUST THINK NIXON WAS A REPUBLICAN !#Hillary

Message: There is always one straw that will break the camels back. Bill had "sex" in the oval office with an intern on numerous occasions. That appareantly is not enough to destroy your marriage. I truly wonder what is. You are a poor role model for women in this country. Bill's conduct should have been that straw for you.

Message: EVA BRAUN WAS ON THE COVER OF VOGUE MAGAZINE, MAY 1937. SHE WON OUT OVER SONJA HENNY FOR THE PHOTO PRESENTATION. HILLARY IS NOW ON THE COVER OF VOGUE. WHAT IS THE MASTER PLAN FOR THE EXTERMINATION OF THE MASSES, TO COME. THE INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT SAID THEY WILL TAKE PROPER ACTION WITH ANY WHO OPPOSE. THE I.C.C. IS EXPERIMENTING WITH THE PEOPLE (AIDS & FLU) OF SOUTH AFRICA AND VARIOUS NATIONS OF EUROPE AND ASIA. THE I.C.C. HAS ALSO DECIDED THAT THE EARTH NEEDS TO HAVE A POPULATION OF 1,000,000 SO THAT THE ENVIRONMENT CAN RETURN TO AS IT WAS AT THE DAWN OF THE HUMAN RACE. WHY NOT TALK OF THIS ? WHY HAS IT NOT BEEN IN THE NEWS ? MILLIONS HAVE ALREADY DIED WORLD WIDE. NOTHING HAS BEEN SAID OF THIS.....

Message: We are thankful for Newt resigning as Speaker of the House and even leaving the House. We are thankful for Starr's being unable to find ANY impeachable offense by the President or his beautiful wife. We are thankful for the Republican losses in Congress. We are thankful for Democrats standing up for themselves and their issues all over the country. We are thankful that the small minded witch hunters did not win this round, although we suspect they will be back. And finally we are thankful for this Forum, where we can all express our opinions freely in the great ol' USA!

Message: Bill and Hilary often remind me of another couple Barney Frank and Patricia Ireland. Each is stunning in their own special way. What a lovely world of contrast and diversity. By the way Hilary looked stunning on the cover of Vogue. However, I suggest some liposuction if they decide to show below the shoulders.

By the way, is the Whitehouse going to have another pornographic Christmas tree this year? We have used condoms that are left over from our Gay gangbang get together last month that we can donate for the tree.

(FDIC)Abstract: This rulemaking proposes to issue a regulations requiring insured nonmember banks to adopt and maintain "Know Your Customer" programs. As proposed, the regulation would require each institution to develop a program designed to determine the identity of its customers; determine its customers' sources of funds; determine the normal and expected transactions of its customers; monitor account activity for transactions that are inconsistent with those normal and expected transactions; and report any transactions of its customers that are determined to be suspicious, in accordance with the FDIC's existing suspicious activity reporting regulations.
